If a payment is declined, your access to YouTube TV and add-ons like NFL Sunday Ticket may be paused. To fix the issue and restore your access, you’ll need to update your payment method or submit your payment again. You can also use these steps to proactively change the card you have on file before your next billing date.

Fix a declined payment:

  1. Go to payments.google.com.
  2. Sign in with the Google account associated with your subscription.
  3. Check for Alerts: Look at the top right corner of your screen for a notification bell. If there is a critical alert regarding your declined payment, click Fix or Verify and follow the prompts to either update your card on file or retry your failed payment on the same payment method.

If there is no alert:

  1. On your "Activity" page, check for any transactions labeled as "Declined" and click Fix Payment Method, then follow the onscreen prompts. If you don't find a declined transaction, move on to the next steps.
  2. Click the Subscriptions & services tab.
  3. Find your subscription and select Manage.
  4. Under “How you pay”, click Change payment method.
  5. Select a valid payment method from the dropdown or add a new card, then click Update.

Update your credit card on-file

Before your auto-renewal date:

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
  2. Under “Memberships,” next to the membership you’d like to update, click Manage membership.
  3. Next to your next payment information, click Edit, then Use a different payment method.
  4. Choose from a different payment method you have on file or click to Add a new form of payment at the bottom of your list and follow the provided prompts.

Understanding declined payments

Impact on account access

If your monthly payment or installment is declined, you’ll receive an email notification. You typically have a 24-hour grace period to fix the issue before your subscription enters a Paused state.

If you lose access to your YouTube TV plan, you’ll also lose access to plan-dependend add-ons, like NFL Sunday Ticket, until your payment method is fixed.

Note: Season passes are a full-season commitment, losing access does not cancel your remaining NFL Sunday Ticket installment bills.

Restoring access immediately

To pay your balance and restore access immediately go to payments.google.com, look at the top right corner of your screen for a notification bell ‘alert’, and then click Fix or Verify from that alert and follow the prompts to retry your payment.

Common reasons for declined payments

Payments are most commonly declined for the following reasons:

  • Insufficient Funds: Not enough funds to cover the charge.
  • Incorrect Card Information: The Card Verification Code (CVC), expiration date, or billing zip code doesn’t match your bank’s records.
  • Expired Card: The card on file has expired.
  • Unsupported Card Type: You’re trying to use an unsupported form of payment, such as a prepaid card.
