Features described in this article only apply to users of YouTube Studio Content Manager. For info on general YouTube policies, learn more here.
Setting default policies speeds up the process of uploading and claiming content. You can set both default upload and default match policies. If you don’t select a default upload or match policy, the predefined policy Monetize in all countries is applied.
You can set one policy that applies to both your videos and user-uploaded videos that contain your content. But, if your policy contains custom Content ID matching criteria, it can’t be used as an upload policy.
Default Upload Policies
YouTube applies your default upload policy to videos uploaded to your own channels and is applied if any of the following conditions are met:
- You upload a video directly to your own YouTube channel through YouTube Studio without manually selecting a usage policy during the upload flow.
- You use the bulk content delivery template and the policy column is left blank.
Default Match Policies
Content ID uses the default match policy when claiming videos on your behalf. Default match policies will apply when:- You explicitly specify the default policy when delivering assets (e.g., “YT_DEFAULT_MATCH_POLICY” in DDEX).
- You leave the policy column blank in your CSV deliveries.
Note: Default policies are not applied if assets are updated directly in CMS without also updating the policy. Additionally, default policies are not applied if the specific conditions of a custom policy are not met. Instead, no policy is applied to the video.
