Create a post

YouTube Community Posts

Posts can give you more reach on YouTube and greater engagement with your audience. Learn more about Posts tab benefits and eligibility. If you want to create posts to connect only with subscribers in your Community, learn more about Communities on YouTube.

Create a post

To create a post:

  1. Tap Create and then Post.
  2. Add text.
  3. Select image , poll , or quiz depending on the type of post you’d like to create.
  4. For image posts, suggested music will automatically be added.
    • To adjust music: Tap the track. Then, drag to change when you want the song to start. Tap Trash to remove the track.
    • To change the track: Tap the track. Then, under the track title, tap Change sound. You can choose from a selection of popular licensed tracks or royalty-free tracks.
    • To create music with Dream Track: From the audio picker, tap Create music . Select an artist or style and describe a song you would like to generate. Tap Create, then to add to your post. Learn how to create with Dream Track and check availability.
Note: You can add up to 15 seconds of music, which will play when the post appears in the Shorts feed. Music cannot be edited or added after posting.

Your use of this audio library (including the music files in this library) is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. Audio from this library is intended solely for use by you in posts and other content that you create.

  1. Select Post.
Note: If you want to set your post to expire in 24 hours, tap the hourglass .

We limit how many posts a channel can create in a 24-hour period to protect the YouTube community. If you run into a “limit reached” error message, try again in 24 hours.

Schedule a post

To schedule a post:

  1. While creating your post, in the top-right corner, tap the clock .
  2. Choose a date, time, and time zone to publish the post.
  3. Tap Done.
  4. On the post creation page, click Schedule.

Share a video in a post

To share a video in a post:

  1. Go to the video that you want to share.
  2. Tap Share Share and then Share.
  3. Tap Create a post.
  4. Type your message and tap Post or .

Share a playlist in a post

To share a playlist in a post:

  1. Open the playlist that you want to share.
  2. Select More and then Share.
  3. Tap Copy link.
  4. Tap Create and then Post.
  5. Paste in the playlist URL and tap Post.

Create a live stream post

  1. From the home screen, tap Record Video camera.
  2. Tap Live and then Public and then Next.
  3. Choose a title, then tap Next.
  4. Select a thumbnail for the post.
  5. Choose the broadcast orientation by turning your device to landscape or portrait view (make sure rotation is allowed on your phone).
  6. Tap Share and then Create a post.
  7. Add post text, then select Post.
  8. Tap Go Live.
  9. To end the stream, tap Finish.

Mention other channels in a post

You can mention other YouTube channels in your posts by entering @ followed immediately by their handle or channel name. The channel may get a notification that you’ve mentioned them. Viewers can click the mention from any device and go directly to that channel page.

Text posts

To create a text post, enter your message in the text box on the Posts tab of your channel. You can post your text by itself, or with a video, image, or GIF. Text posts can’t be combined with quizzes.

Playlist posts

You can post playlists from artists that you enjoy. Copy and paste the playlist URL into your post.

Image and GIF posts

You can choose to upload up to 10 images with your post. Tap image to select images or animated GIFs.

Guidelines

  • Size: Up to 16 MB
  • File types: JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP
  • Suggested aspect ratio: We suggest 1:1 ratio because that's how images are shown in the feed. Viewers can see the full image by clicking to expand it.

Only use images that you have permission to use. You can also include text with your image post. Keep in mind that images must follow YouTube Community Guidelines. If images violate Community Guidelines, your post may be removed and a strike may be applied to the channel.

Video posts

If you choose to add a video to your post, you can:

  • Search for a YouTube video
  • Paste in a YouTube video URL
  • Select a video from your YouTube channel

When you create a post that shares a video by another creator, a notification may be sent to the original uploader of the video. This notification helps creators acknowledge when other creators are sharing their videos.

Note: Posts about a video already in a viewer’s Subscription or Home feed might not show again. This setting prevents your viewers from seeing the same video repeatedly.

Polls

If you choose to add a poll to your post:

  1. Select either Text or Image poll.
  2. For Text polls:
    1. Enter a question in the "Ask your community..." field.
    2. Enter answers in the "Add option" fields within 65 characters each.
    3. Tap Add option to add up to 4 answers.
  3. For Image polls:
    1. Enter a question in the "Ask your community..." field.
    2. Upload images as options, and add captions within 36 characters in the “Option” fields.
    3. Tap Add option to add up to 4 images.

Quizzes

If you choose to add a Quiz to your post:

  1. Enter a question in the text field.
  2. Enter answers in the “Answer” fields. Answers can be up to 80 characters each or up to 30 characters if an image is added.
    • Tap to add an image to your answer.
  3. If you need more answer fields, tap Add answer. You can have up to 4 answers.
  4. Select the correct answer. You can add an optional explanation for why this is the correct answer in the text field. Explanations can be 500 characters max.
Note: You can only have one correct answer on Quizzes.
