If a payment is declined, your access to YouTube memberships and Primetime Channels like NFL Sunday Ticket may be paused. To fix the issue and restore your access, you’ll need to update your payment method or submit your payment again. You can also use these steps to proactively change the card you have on file before your next billing date.
Fix a declined payment:
- Go to payments.google.com.
- Sign in with the Google account associated with your subscription.
- Check for Alerts: Look for a notification bell at the top right of your screen. If you see a critical alert for a declined payment, click Fix or Verify and follow the prompts to either update your card on file or retry your failed payment on the same payment method.
- Note: If you have a failed payment for both your YouTube TV plan and an add-on, you’ll need to do this for both alerts.
If there is no alert:
- On your "Activity" page, check for any transactions labeled as "Declined" and click Fix Payment Method, then follow the onscreen prompts. If you don't find a declined transaction, move on to the next steps.
- Click the Subscriptions & services tab.
- Find your subscription and select Manage.
- Under “How you pay”, click Change payment method.
- Select a valid payment method from the dropdown or add a new card, then click Update.
Update your credit card on-file
To view or update your form of payment before your next billing or renewal date:
- Go to payments.google.com.
- Sign in with the Google account associated with your subscription.
- Click the Subscriptions & services tab.
- Find your subscription and select Manage.
- Under How you pay, click Change payment method.
- Select a valid payment method from the dropdown or add a new card, then click Update.
Understanding declined payments
Impact on account access
If your monthly payment or installment is declined, you’ll receive an email notification. You typically have a 24-hour grace period to fix the issue before your subscription enters a Paused state.
If you lose access to your YouTube TV plan, you’ll also lose access to plan-dependend add-ons, like NFL Sunday Ticket, until your payment method is fixed.
Restoring access immediately
To pay your balance and restore access immediately go to payments.google.com, look at the top right corner of your screen for a notification bell ‘alert’, and then click Fix or Verify from that alert and follow the prompts to retry your payment.
Common reasons for declined payments
Payments are most commonly declined for the following reasons:
- Insufficient Funds: Not enough funds to cover the charge.
- Incorrect Card Information: The Card Verification Code (CVC), expiration date, or billing zip code doesn’t match your bank’s records.
- Expired Card: The card on file has expired.
- Unsupported Card Type: You’re trying to use an unsupported form of payment, such as a prepaid card.
