He's not a guy, he's a machine! Prime Video has already identified the man who they want to step into one of the most iconic roles in sci-fi history, but things are moving quickly behind the scenes too. Dan Stevens was officially announced earlier this week as the new Alex Murphy, following in the footsteps of Peter Weller, Robert Burke and Joel Kinnaman. Now, Stevens has revealed exclusively to Collider that RoboCop preparations are already underway for him to become the future of law enforcement.
Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub alongside Drew Starkey while promoting Adam Wingard’s Onslaught, Stevens confirmed that he'll be suiting up sooner than expected and, even more excitingly, the actor revealed that production is currently expected to begin in spring 2027. Stevens added that he had also been told there was hope for the series to become a recurring one, rather than limited.
“In answer to your question, I have not tried the suit on yet, but very soon. We’ve got fittings coming up. And yeah, it’s all come together pretty recently, and I couldn’t be more excited. As far as I understand, it could continue [as a recurring series]. I hope it does. And it starts shooting in spring next year.”

What Do We Know About Prime Video’s ‘RoboCop’ Series?
Stevens was officially cast in the series earlier this week, and in doing so he will become the fourth actor to play Alex Murphy in live action. Weller originated the role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film and returned for RoboCop 2, while Burke took over for RoboCop 3. Kinnaman subsequently played Murphy in the panned 2014 theatrical reboot.
Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global TV Peter Friedlander previously said Ocko’s take on the series would preserve the spirit of Verhoeven’s original but would also have a new modern take on the themes of technology, identity and corporate power: “Peter Ocko has crafted a vision that honors the soul of what made the original so enduring while building something entirely fresh and urgent for today.”
James Wan executive produces alongside Michael Clear and Rob Hackett, with original RoboCop writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner also serving as executive producers. Before Stevens takes on the mantle, though, he's got plenty on his plate. Next, he appears in Onslaught, then Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 as Owen Stark and he will return as Trapper in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
What Is 'Onslaught' About?
Onslaught is the latest from Adam Wingard, one of Hollywood's finest up-and-coming directors, fresh off immense blockbuster success with Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Stevens stars alongside Starkey, Adria Arjona, Rebecca Hall, Michael Biehn, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, and Keith Jardine in the action-horror, which follows a mother who encounters a mysterious threat after turning to a secretive biotech company for help. Biehn, recently speaking to Collider, said the film gave him "[the] same feelings I had when I saw Aliens. I just didn’t have Bill Paxton in there next to me to high five with," and added that he hoped audiences would be desperate for a sequel.
