Not just whether we can get the connection today. With AI and Data Centers growing, it’s becoming a much bigger conversation around generation, grid capacity, clean energy, redundancy, and what happens when everyone wants more power at the same time. So maybe “How many MW are available?” is no longer the best first question. For me, it’s becoming: How reliable and sustainable are those MW for the life of the project? Because getting the power is one thing. Having the right power for the next decade is another. #DataCenter #AIInfrastructure #Power #Thailand

Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin แบ่งปันสิ่งนี้Throwback DCW2026 🇸🇬 One thing I realized from this trip: traveling to an industry event is not about collecting or giving away as many business cards as possible. It is about the journey of finding the most unexpected connections. Some conversations started with business. Some had nothing to do with the meeting I originally planned. Some opportunities came from people I never expected to meet at all. And at the least expected moment, the alliance in the linen shirt appeared. 😌 Sometimes, the most valuable outcome isn’t an immediate deal. It is discovering someone who sees the same opportunity from a different angle, has a missing piece of the puzzle, or simply turns out to be on the same side. Between meetings, coffee, walking around Singapore, good food, and conversations beyond the exhibition floor, I came home with fewer business cards than I could have collected, but with more meaningful connections than I expected. Maybe that’s the real value of showing up. You never really know what, or who, you are going to find along the way. Throwback DCW2026. Until the next journey. ✈️

Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin โพสต์สิ่งนี้MW is becoming more than a number. 2 October 2026 Thailand has agreed to classify Data Centers into five groups, from 0–1 MW all the way to above 200 MW. What interests me is what happens next. For a long time, when discussing a Data Center project, MW was mainly a question of capacity, investment and commercial return. Now it is increasingly connected to power allocation, regulation, land, environment, building requirements and national infrastructure planning. That changes the BD conversation too. Before asking “How many MW can we build?” We may increasingly need to ask: “What does this MW mean for the project, the location and Thailand?” The detailed rules are still coming. Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin โพสต์สิ่งนี้I’m Starting to Ask About the Power Contract Much Earlier 30 September 2026 Thailand’s Data Center power conversation is getting more interesting. The ERC is now working toward clearer rules for Data Center electricity tariffs, Direct PPA and the Wheeling Charge, with further clarity targeted by the end of this year. From the BD side, this changes one of the questions I want answered early in a project. Not only: How many MW can we get? But: How are we going to buy those MW for the next 10–15 years? Utility supply, green tariff, Direct PPA or dedicated generation can create very different economics and responsibilities. And once the power requirement reaches 50, 100 or 200 MW, a small difference in the commercial structure becomes a very large number over the life of the project. I’m increasingly convinced that power strategy belongs in the investment conversation before the site decision is finished, not after. #AIInfrastructure #DataCenter #BusinessDevelopment #Energy #Thailand

Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin แบ่งปันสิ่งนี้6–9 GW Changes the Conversation Before a Data Center Is Even Designed 28 September 2026 EGAT’s latest PDP2026 discussion puts potential electricity demand from Data Centers and AI infrastructure in Thailand at around 6–9 GW. From the BD side, that number makes me think less about how much capacity Thailand can announce and more about how individual projects will actually secure it. When a customer gives me an RFS date, “power is available in the area” is not enough. What matters commercially is whether the required MW can be delivered at that location, within that timeline, at an acceptable cost, and with room to expand. Those details can change the site decision, investment timeline, contract structure and sometimes the whole business case before detailed design even begins. This is probably one of the things I find most interesting about working in AI infrastructure. We talk about GPUs, AI models and billions in investment. But a deal can still come down to something very physical: Can we get the right MW to the right place at the right time? #AIInfrastructure #DataCenter #Thailand #BusinessDevelopment

Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin โพสต์สิ่งนี้What Does “Site Ready” Really Mean? 27 September 2026 Bangkok’s flooding this weekend reminded me of a request I received from a client before: “Can you provide the 100-year flood history of the site?” At the time, it was a good reminder of how differently mission-critical infrastructure needs to look at site risk. Land available? ✓ Power available? ✓ Fiber available? ✓ But that is not enough. What is the historical flood risk? What happens to the access road? The substation? Fuel delivery? Telecom routes? Operations teams? A Data Center itself can remain dry while the infrastructure around it stops functioning. So when someone says a site is “ready,” I think we need to look much further than what we can see today. Especially when we are building infrastructure expected to operate for the next 15–20 years. Site readiness = infrastructure resilience. Sometimes that means looking back 100 years to understand how we should build for the next 20. #AIInfrastructure #DataCenter #Thailand #InfrastructureResilience #SiteReadiness

That is the domestic value the Federation of Thai Industries believes Thailand could potentially capture from the next five years of Data Center investment under its industry scenario. But local value does not happen automatically because a Data Center is built here. Someone has to specify the equipment. Someone has to qualify the suppliers. Someone has to integrate the systems. And someone has to give Thai companies the opportunity to move from supplier → integrator → technology owner. That is why I increasingly see Data Centers not as the end product. Paul C. Agree. And I would take it one step further — sovereignty should logically be considered from the foundation up, not only at the cloud or compute layer.
Power, infrastructure, compute, cloud, data, platforms and applications all matter. The real question for any country is: how much of that stack can it actually own, control and develop?

On September 29, President Donald Trump hosted a “Super Intelligence Luncheon” at the White House, bringing together leading figures from AI, semiconductors, cloud and technology. Jensen Huang of NVIDIA, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Sundar Pichai of Google, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, Elon Musk, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Lisa Su of AMD, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Alex Karp of Palantir and Hock Tan of Broadcom were among those attending. Looking at the companies represented around the table, their combined public market capitalization could exceed $10 trillion. One image quickly drew attention online: the “AI version of the Last Supper.” And one line captured the humor behind it: “Seating charts have never been investment research, but proximity to the President might be the alpha signal hiding in plain sight.” Of course, seating positions are not a meaningful basis for evaluating companies or investment opportunities. What is more interesting is the group of companies represented around the table. AI is no longer simply a story about model development and research labs. Behind AI lies an increasingly interconnected ecosystem spanning GPUs and semiconductors, hyperscale cloud, data centers, networking, energy, capital and AI model developers. AI safety was also part of the discussion, alongside a voluntary commitment covering internal controls, independent assessments and board-level oversight of AI development. Another detail also attracted attention: Apple was notably absent from the luncheon. This may be remembered as a symbolic snapshot of the AI era. Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin ชอบสิ่งนี้Kamonwan (Gift) Chaiwattanasin ชอบสิ่งนี้Thailand Data Centre Policy Update | 1 October 2026 The Data Centre Business Policy Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, met today and took several decisions that matter for operators and investors. What was agreed 🔹 Five categories based on power consumption Tier 1: 0–1 MW Tier 2: 1–5 MW Tier 3: 5–50 MW Tier 4: 50–200 MW Tier 5: above 200 MW 🔹 Two-rate electricity tariff under the NEPC's Type 9 category. Data centres using clean energy will pay less than those supplied by gas-fired generation. The rates themselves will be confirmed next week. 🔹 Net Zero will be built into the regulatory framework for the sector. 🔹 Zoning and building standards. The Ministry of Interior will set town-planning rules and building specifications for data centre sites, given their diesel storage and high power use. As a first step, buildings that house a data centre will need signage identifying them as such. What's next 📅 Subcommittee meetings next week will set out tier-by-tier requirements and the actual tariff rates. 📅 The Civil Works and Town Planning Subcommittee meets on 6 October. 📅 The government has said it aims to have the rules enforceable by mid-October. 📅 The ERC's public consultation on a dedicated Data Centre Electricity Distribution Licence closes on 18 October. How this builds on earlier decisions The tiers follow the Board's 23 September decision to classify data centres by total facility load, and to require facilities of 0.5 MW and above to register with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. Earlier drafts had pointed to a 100 MW hyperscale threshold, but the agreed bands break at 50 MW and 200 MW. Members should review where their existing and planned capacity falls. TDCA's view TDCA welcomes the clear direction from the Committee. Investors have been waiting for regulatory certainty, and a tiered framework is an important step towards it. The tariff gap in favour of clean energy is a positive signal. It supports the case we have made for data centres as a driver of Thailand's renewable energy transition. The government's estimate of up to 20,000 MW of data centre demand compares with 26 facilities currently in operation. We continue to encourage policymakers to distinguish committed, financeable capacity from speculative reservations when designing tariffs and grid access rules. TDCA will continue to work with the Committee and its subcommittees. We will share further updates as tariff rates and tier requirements are confirmed.
