Where is the cheapest sex change, by a reliable doctor? Prices at somewhere like Bumrumgrad are not affordable, for most Thai people or a lot of farangs. Despite the rising baht, its still much, much cheaper to fly from Europe or the US, to Thailand. But where do Thai people have their SRS?

The cheapest I found was 270,000 baht, including breast implants. The doctor is trained by another reputable surgeon, so there is no problem with credentials I won't name the clinic, so as not to advertise, but, this is the least expensive I have found in Bangkok.

(Please do not direct me to NGO/LGBT inflected stuff, as there was little of that when I first flew to Thailand, years ago. The culture has its own way of dealing with things, more sympathetic to those who do not shriek, or have blue hair.)

Thailand hospitals: everything you need to know | Thaiger (thethaiger.com)

The Thaiger has recently published a story (above) overviewing the Thailand Medical System. There is one section I am very interested in knowing more about and I would bet than some Expats would too.

Premium Clinics. Premium Clinics are special clinics available in some government hospitals in the country. In addition to offering medical services outside of working hours, they also provide more experienced doctors and shorter waiting times. The treatments cost are higher than the regular service in government hospitals but still much lower than in private hospitals.

I am aware of the 'Premium Clinic' associated with the big Government Hospital in Chiang Mai - the Sriphat Centre - because we used that in Chiang Mai and it was great. It cost much more than the Government Hospitals, but was much cheaper than the private hospitals - definitely an option for5 any Expat living in Chiang Mai.

Can anyone provide more of them, or even a list of the Premium Clinics available in all of Thailand. There is a website that offers to provide that list, but you must pay to become a member. Given that they are all Government provided Clinics, I am sure they are listed somewhere within the bowels of the Thai Medical Bureaucracy, but I definitely do not want to go in there. Can anyone advise of any other Premium Clinics that they are aware of, and if they have used them maybe a quick review?

I'm looking for some clear information about the legal obligations of a condominium juristic person and a landlord with respect to public areas of the condo.

We have a 4 month old child. The rented apartment is literally overrun with cockroaches constantly due to poor management of the public areas by the juristic person and a failure to treat the problem. They seem indifferent to it.

Even constant use of poison and fumigating the room only treats the problem temporarily. The cockroaches are soon back. They are breeding constantly as there are lots of juvenile cockroaches. I'm talking hundreds of them. Frequently I can see literally dozens running around the kitchen area at any one time (it's next to the front door). All food is kept in containers and the areas are cleaned regularly. These cockroaches come from outside. The apartment is on the 26th floor!!

We have complained repeatedly to no avail. Both the cockroaches and the need to use poison are a serious health hazard, especially with a 4 month old child. So we need to find a new lodging.

Does anyone have clear knowledge - not opinion please - of any relevant laws that might allow us to recoup the security deposit, since we're still within the contract term?

After living here for a few years, and occasionally having to access health care in Thai international hospitals, It struck me that you need a reasonable level of background medical, heath care and pharmaceutical knowledge, if you want to avoid getting Royally ripped off. Examples. know the difference between an X Ray, MRI scan and CT scan, they often try to sell you all three when only one is the appropriate one for your suspected condition. Always check contra indication and side effects for the medication they give you , or try to give you, they are not good at telling you . Google is good for that info. If they come at you with a syringe, know exactly what's in it. Don't jump into surgery of any kind without doing some background research yourself and its always wise to get a second opinion here, and even a third. Make sure that any price given to you for a procedure includes all testing, all required medications and comprehensive after care. If its surgery, make sure anesthetist costs are included in the price. Don't allow yourself to be passed around various specialist consultants that you haven't asked for, unless the medical need is clear to you, its another trick they can get up to. Final bit of advice, if you are walking wounded, take your time, maybe leave and come back another day. Don't rush into anything. Money is the prime mover in private medicine here, and although much of the care is good quality, it can get very costly.

Can anyone help regarding testing domestic water quality please?

After the recent flooding a few weeks back, it seems logical that some of the water has entered the underground domestic tank beneath my home, through the surface manhole cover. Of course the water is never used for personal consumption but its a concern not knowing if the contents are contaminated and what action to take?

I have been told that emptying the tank could risk damage to the fabric of the tank and being underground and of course in the worst possible position I dont wont to risk that.

I have a history of sun- caused benign localized removed Skin Cancer on my back, back of hands & legs since 2017.
I was therefore unsurprised when a new itchy hard lesion bump (weirdly shaped like an alien moon base !) formed on top of my scalp recently even though my only sustained sun exposure is during Pool swimming.

Refused to heal naturally so finally after two months took action. Local Doctor Clinic gave Useless Cream.

I am aged 65 in near perfect Health with no conditions. Diet & Exercise fan.Never been seriously ill or injured with zero in -patient record.

Wanting to avoid an inflated 20k baht type uninsured private hospital bill, (having seen that type of (insured) bill develop for every conceivable allowable medical item, for minor bike spill treated at private hospital, under my accident insurance)and curious too, I decided to try, for the first time, the Thai public hospital system.

We carry family private accident insurance with Chubb and I have LMG medical insurance with high deductible intended to limit major costs only and maintain low premiums.

My educated Thai lady is always knocking the 30 baht System (“ they treat you bad”)but she & kid never used it as both fit as a butchers dog . Kid had his child vax of course. She turned out to be quite wrong based on my experience.

Chalong Govt. Hospital Doctor gave me a week long antibiotic course and referral letter to the best public Provincial hospital here, VACHIRA, which I selected upon request.

Antibiotics reduced the infection but not got rid . So ……

Completed four stages of registration & specialist nurse bureaucracy between 7:45 to 9:00 am 14 Feb at Vachira (Phuket Town).

My Thai Pink National ID Rejected for no reason but used to that experience now here as nobody has ever accepted it for anything ! Thai Driving License accepted by Vachira (and everywhere) in lieu requested Passport.

Vachira Hospital was Organized Chaos. Overworked Nurses were helpful & efficient. Burma “Volunteer” (English Speaking) most useful intermediary between process stages ! Hundreds of Thais there milling about and seated patiently or laying on trolley beds.

Only five other farang seen there all day. One Brit had worked here thirty years under work permit so had govt. health cover. US guy on marriage visa, accompanied by Thai wife, also trying govt healthcare for the first time.

At 9am the Nurse seeing how tired I looked ( 5 hours sleep ) and with first doctor check at 10am ,sent me outside for breakfast ! No catering inside hospital for out patients.

Thai food shop opposite Hospital had no English Language so just Ordered the most expensive (mystery) dish at 120 baht and received an excellent mixed seafood- rice -soup with my coffee and water. After that, feeling more human again…..

Back inside, General Doctor referred me to Skin Doctor for the scalp lesion and administered Cryofreeze canister gas treatment for my other very minor chest skin & back of hand cancer. 15 March follow up appointment made which I thought could coincide with lesion surgery follow up too.

Building up a serious computer and paper file by now. 12am now & hospital lunch time. Told to return at 1pm so drove to the excellent Campus Roaster in Phuket old town for coffee & scones.

Back at 1:15pm with 150 other seated people having that 1pm slot for two doctors offices ! Finally at 3pm arranged lesion surgery with Skin Doctor for 24 Feb ( local anesthetic) preceded by 22 Feb mandatory pre op Covid check ( home isolation only if positive) arranged at other desk found by nurse for me. Everything patiently explained for my benefit in decent English.

Finished the day here at Cashier paying 840 baht for the days work to add to the 715 baht Chalong Doctor Bill. Cashier had no idea about Surgery Cost (govt tariff so who cares!)

8 Hour Hospital Process ;7:45 am to 3:45pm.🤣

Hoping someone might know about this, given its apparent commonality among Thai ladies

My Thai girlfirend is regularly going to a dermatologist in Surat to get treatment for dark patches and spots (I'd call them freckles). Its not something that bothers me, but I can see how it bothers here.

Its not clear if this is due to melasma, which is something some ladies get after pregnancy, or sun exposure, or overuse of steroid-based whitening creams. I get 3 different versions. The treatment is a course of 3 sessions of laser treatment, some sort of cold cream and injections with transexemic acid. 3 sessions costs her 8000 Baht.

It took a while for me to figure out what medication was being used, as the doctor didn't tell her, and she didn't ask. Eventually, I got the brand name, and could see it was a legitimate treatment.

Today she went over for just the laser treatment, costing her 1500 Baht. The doctor wanted her to heal for a month, but at the same time wants her to start a new course in 2 weeks time, otherwise all the previous treatment has been "useless". She has also been given a packet of transexemic acid pills to take.

So far the doc reports a 60% "improvement", which seems inline with the clinical studies I read. Yes, her skin does look better, but it was never something that bothered me. But what I think doesn't matter.

What I'm not sure of, and I can't get an answer from my girlfriend, is how many courses are needed, or is this something she has to do for years, costing her money she doesn't have.

I don't want her to waste her money or undergo unnecessary medical procedures. Is another course legit? If 60% effective firsttime, will a second course get to overall 96% effective?

Anyone have direct or indirect experience of this in Thailand? I do send her money, but its really with the intention of helping her shop which is struggling a bit at the moment. I've said to her that its up to her how she spends that money. Not sure that helped. Am I being seen as "stingy" rather than actually just being concerned? She's now saying she'll do whatever I want, and being miserable with it, which is not what I meant.
