Tri Trang Beach is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. With its natural beauty, clear waters, and peaceful vibe, it’s perfect for a quiet beach day just minutes from Phuket’s most famous party zone. Whether you’re staying nearby or just dropping by for a few hours, Tri Trang Beach is absolutely worth the detour.
Tri Trang Beach, also known as Emerald Beach, is one of Phuket’s more peaceful and lesser-known stretches of sand. Tucked just a few kilometers south of lively Patong Beach, this calm bay offers space to unwind, swim, and snorkel with far fewer crowds. With luxury resorts like Rosewood Phuket set along its shore, Tri Trang is ideal for anyone seeking quiet comfort close to Phuket’s main attractions.
Where on Phuket is Tri Trang Beach located?
Tri Trang’s main appeal lies in its calm setting and natural beauty. While only a stone’s throw from buzzing Patong, it feels like a completely different world. The beach is home to the super-luxurious Rosewood Phuket, which opened in 2017, yet much of the area retains a laid-back charm. You’ll also get fantastic views of Patong and Kalim Beach from across the bay and vibrant emerald green water, giving Tri Trang its nickname, Emerald Beach.

Tri Trang Beach is just over 700 meters long and is actually divided into two distinct sections. The first (western) part is easily accessed via a public road next to the large “Tri Trang Beach” stone letters. Here, a concrete walkway leads to stairs into the sea or beach, depending on the tide.
This section is especially welcoming to people with mobility issues, as the concrete path offers easy sea views. During high tide, expect to walk through knee-high water to reach the second part of the beach—a wider stretch of soft sand with (palm) trees at the back. On busier days, you’ll find local vendors selling snacks and drinks, though bringing your own is always a good idea.
The sea at Tri Trang Beach
The sea here is clean, clear, and emerald in color—a refreshing change from Patong’s more crowded waters. While the beach looks inviting, the seabed is rocky with many stones and corals, so water shoes are highly recommended. Tri Trang is a great spot for snorkeling, especially during high tide when visibility improves. At low tide, you may need to wade further out to enjoy better conditions.
Families with small children should supervise closely, but the sea is mostly calm during the dry season (Nov–Apr).
From Patong, Tri Trang is only a 5–10-minute drive, or around a one-hour walk along the coast. Taxis, tuk-tuks, and resort shuttles are widely available. From Phuket Town, expect about a 30–35-minute drive. If you’re heading further south, you’ll pass Paradise Beach and Freedom Beach on the way to Karon.

Tri Trang Beach is just a 10-minute walk from Merlin Beach, so you can easily visit both in a single day!
