Summary Decision 2025-053-FB-UA
We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with a Facebook comment targeting Romani people, stating they “should not exist” and are “only [a] problem for the world.” The comment was made on a post discussing the history of migrations of the Romani people.
Upon initial review, Meta left this content up. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined the content violates our Hateful Conduct policy, as laid out in the Meta Community Standards, and removed the content. Meta removes content that “calls for exclusion or segregation when targeting people based on protected characteristics,” such as race and ethnicity
