Recently, our CEO, Gary Miles, sat down with Garth Bray on Sharesies’ Shared Lunch podcast to talk about Gentrack’s growth from around $100 million to approximately $230 million in revenue over five years, the thinking behind expanding into 40 countries, and how our AI-enabled platform, g2, is shaping the future of billing and customer engagement for energy and water utilities worldwide. Gary also discusses why a global technology company would acquire Wellington startup Factor, and the value it brings to Gentrack and our customers. It’s a candid conversation about building a global technology business from New Zealand. Listen to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/eefUtg2X #Utilities #Factor #SharedLunch #NZX

New Zealand's water reform has moved from policy to practice. The first standalone water bills are now landing in letterboxes, and the new water services entities face a straightforward test: can they deliver what many councils could not? In this opinion piece for The Post, Jason Perera, APAC Commercial Director at Gentrack, argues that closing the sector's long-standing delivery gap comes down to getting the fundamentals right: metering consumption, tracking costs down to the asset, and billing that shows customers what they're paying for and why. Instability doesn't have to mean simply reacting. The organisations best placed to succeed are those built to adapt as conditions change. That's the thinking behind Factor, now part of Gentrack, and it's a perspective that's becoming increasingly relevant across the energy sector. Read more from the Factor team below:
Storms. Heatwaves. Shifting geopolitics. Grid demand that moves faster than anyone predicted. None of it comes with much warning anymore, and energy retailers are the ones who have to absorb the shock in real time. We built Factor around that reality from day one. Almost a decade of building and running our own retail business taught us that resilience isn't a feature you add later, it's the foundation you build on. That means Factor is flexible by design, with new functions constantly added to help customers manage shifting conditions. It's also configurable, so if something is specific to a customer's business, their own team can build the solution inside Factor rather than waiting on us. Compare that to the old way - New condition, new spreadsheet, built from scratch, every time. With a real product underneath you, you're not starting over. You're just switching on functionality you haven't needed yet. 🎥 Watch the full conversation: https://lnkd.in/ekSDqeg9

What does the future of AI in utilities really look like? For our CTO Scott Chilton, it isn't about adding AI for the sake of it. It's about solving the problems that matter most to utilities and their customers. In his latest interview with ITBrief, TechDay Australia, Scott shares why coming from outside the utilities sector gives him a fresh perspective, why customer outcomes should always come before technology, and how AI can help retailers move from reacting to issues to preventing them altogether. From reducing cost to serve to creating more proactive customer experiences, the conversation explores how utilities can embrace AI without losing sight of what really matters. Water is rarely out of the headlines at the moment. From growing pressure on water resources to the need for greater resilience, the challenges facing utilities are becoming harder to ignore. At the same time, expectations continue to evolve, making innovation more important than ever. Across the world, water utilities are finding practical ways to tackle these challenges. Some are introducing new services, others are making it easier for customers to manage their water use, while many are rethinking how they deliver value every day. That's why we created The Highway of Innovation – Water Edition. It brings together real examples from water utilities around the world, showcasing ideas that are already making a difference and demonstrating what's possible with the right technology and approach. If you're looking for fresh thinking, it's a great place to start. Download your copy here: https://lnkd.in/e7tWb9yS #Water #Utilities #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #CustomerExperience

What if energy software worked the way modern SaaS always promised? That's the thinking behind Factor, the latest addition to the Gentrack family. Built cloud native from the ground up, Factor puts customers in control with rapid onboarding, real product access before purchase, and open APIs that enable teams to build and innovate faster. https://lnkd.in/ebgVejjs
Most energy tech gets sold the old way. You see a demo, you sign a contract, then you wait months to actually touch the product. We built Factor differently. Multi-tenanted, cloud native, and truly global from day one, so onboarding a new customer doesn't take months. It takes a cup of coffee. But the bigger shift is trust. We let prospects log in and use Factor, configured for their real use cases, before they ever make a buying decision. Once they're customers, full API access means their own technology teams can build, integrate, and extend without waiting on us or paying for a bespoke project. We build for the people doing the work, give them the keys, and let them choose how they want to use it. That's what SaaS should have meant for this industry all along. 🎥 Full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/efhvtwbB

On July 1st, governments on both sides of the Tasman reshaped the future of household solar. In Australia, the Solar Sharer scheme introduced three hours of free midday electricity for eligible smart-meter households. In New Zealand, major electricity retailers are now required to offer time-of-use plans and pay fair, time-varying rates for exported solar. These reforms represent more than policy changes. They fundamentally change how energy retailers design, price and deliver products to customers. The challenge? Regulation moves faster than many legacy billing platforms. When new customer offerings become mandatory, retailers need to configure, test and launch compliant products quickly. For organisations reliant on heavily customised systems, introducing a new tariff can still take weeks or months creating unnecessary operational risk and increasing the likelihood of compliance issues. That's where agility becomes a competitive advantage. With Gentrack's Product Builder, part of the g2 platform, retailers can design, configure and launch new energy products through a no-code interface putting control into the hands of business teams rather than relying heavily on IT. Whether responding to regulatory reform, launching new tariffs or creating innovative customer offers, products can be brought to market in hours instead of weeks. As utilities navigate increasingly dynamic energy markets, the ability to adapt quickly isn't just about compliance it's about delivering better customer outcomes and turning regulatory change into commercial opportunity. The utility retailers that treat pricing as a strategic product capability will be best placed to respond to whatever comes next.
