Find out how they got here in our new book: https://lnkd.in/dmHvCw99 Let's first acknowledge the International Airlines Group (IAG) group is made of several large airlines including British Airways, Iberia and Vueling. Yet, it is commendable that they flew with more sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) last year than most of their American or European counterparts, put together. IAG has made a tremendous leap in its SAF usage over the last year - growing from 54,000 tons to 162,000 tons. This represents 36% of the total #aviation industry growth in SAF use. For the record, using SAF today costs more than jet fuel. So why would an airline CEO (or CFO) approve such an uplift, where there's (almost) zero business case? When I was last with Sean Doyle, I asked him this very question. He told me about the importance of being first. Of the pioneering spirit and why it's so important in aviation. "And as we scale it, the price premium drops and it becomes more affordable." This pioneering spirit is epitomised by the very talented team that has led to the dramatic uptick in SAF usage at IAG, led by the industry legends Jonathon Counsell, Jim Davies and Leigh Hudson. IAG announced its H1 2025 financial results on Friday. As part of the IAG group, British Airways delivered an operating profit of £824m at an operating margin of 11.7% – up £269m compared to the same period in 2024. A strong result. We’ll continue to put our energy into running an efficient and reliable operation, delivering for our customers, supporting our people and progressing our sustainability goals.

Today, International Airlines Group (IAG) published its full year 2025 results. British Airways delivered an operating profit of £2,230m, up £182m compared to 2024.*    I’m incredibly proud of everyone at British Airways as the hard work has driven sustained improvements in our operation, with 2025 marking our best overall for punctuality since 2011. As part of our £7bn transformation programme, we have now completed more than 1,200 improvement projects across the business, helping to push customer satisfaction in the right direction and laying the foundations for long term, sustainable growth.    We’re also investing where it matters for our customers. Since 2017, HUB Airlines has advocated a forward-looking aviation strategy combining hub operations with a Low Fare / Long Haul model, developed through industry dialogue with partners including Airbus. The vision has been clear: Brazilian airlines have the capability to expand their role in long-haul international markets. #Brazil’s international aviation market grew from 23.6 million passengers in 2019 to 28.4 million in 2025, confirming strong recovery and demand. Yet nearly 70% of international traffic to and from Brazil continues to be operated by foreign airlines, highlighting a significant opportunity for Brazilian carriers. HUB Airlines has consistently stimulated discussion on long-haul development and included LATAM Airlines Group, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras, and Abra Group, parent company of GOL Linhas Aéreas. The principle behind this initiative is that Brazilian operators can successfully master long-haul markets while generating local employment, revenue, cargo development and stronger global connectivity. A relevant example is Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras, which while maintaining its strong domestic focus, operated long-haul services with the Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A330-900. However, wide-body growth among Brazilian airlines remains limited compared with the potential of the market. Future expansion with next-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A350 could further strengthen Brazil’s international presence. Azul’s trajectory already demonstrated Brazil’s aviation demand: during its startup phase the airline transported one million passengers within only eight months, a remarkable milestone. Another important development is seen at LATAM, whose Brazilian operations continue expanding long-haul connectivity to Europe while significantly strengthening the domestic network through the acquisition of more than 70 aircraft from the Embraer E-Jet E2 family, reinforcing both national connectivity and Brazil’s aerospace industry. HUB Airlines recognizes the legacy of its founder Captain Rudolf Brockhausen, who represented Lufthansa Group during the preparations for the launch of GOL Linhas Aéreas around the year 2000 and observed the evolution of Brazil’s low-fare aviation model. He also maintained dialogue with Constantino de Oliveira Junior, Chairman of Abra Group. His final correspondence was received by our founder Rudolf Brockhausen in October 2025 before he sadly passed away, now flying with his own wings. Shortly afterwards, Abra Group announced plans to introduce wide-body aircraft operations at Gol, reinforcing the growing momentum toward expanding Brazil’s long-haul capabilities. In 2025, HUB Airlines also received formal recognition from the Vice Presidency of Brazil for its contributions to discussions on the development and recovery of the international aviation market. Expanding long-haul operations by Brazilian airlines will be key for global connectivity, economic development and job creation.

International Airlines Group is set to transform the in-flight connectivity experience through a new strategic partnership with Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet service. This collaboration aims to equip more than 500 aircraft across IAG's portfolio, including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling, with high-speed, low-latency internet. Passengers can expect download speeds of 150-450 Mbps and upload speeds of 20-70 Mbps, comparable or superior to many home broadband services. The service will offer seamless gate-to-gate connectivity with latency as low as 20 milliseconds, enabling real-time video calls, online gaming, and streaming. Notably, British Airways and Iberia will provide this service free of charge to all passengers, emphasizing IAG's commitment to improving customer experience. This rollout will begin in early 2026, positioning IAG as a leader in digital innovation in Europe’s aviation sector. The move reflects a broader transformation strategy that leverages cutting-edge technology to enhance operations and passenger satisfaction.
