OREM, Utah, USA; July 28, 1997 - PowerQuest Corporation announces PowerQuest Drive Image™ for the retail market, scheduled for release September 1997. Response to PowerQuest DriveCopy™, an inexpensive utility specifically designed for upgrading hard drives, has been so overwhelming that PowerQuest decided to release a product that would offer imaging and compression features as well as disk to disk copying.

For the retail market, Drive Image is a complete solution for fast backups, system recovery or upgrading to a new hard drive. The computer user can create an image file, store it on a second hard drive, Jaz, Zip or other removable media. If disaster strikes, the image can be easily restored and, within minutes, operating systems, applications and data are up and running.

"Why should anyone spend hours recovering from a crash or upgrading to a new drive, when all they have to do is download an image file and in minutes, be up and running again," says Steve Fairbanks, product marketing manager for PowerQuest.

Drive Image will also include a disk to disk copy feature similar to PowerQuest's DriveCopy. The primary difference between DriveCopy and the disk to disk copy feature in Drive Image is the flexibility Drive Image gives the user to select and copy individual partitions and to resize those partitions on the destination drive. A compression feature is also included in Drive Image that allows the user to store the image on smaller hard drives and removable media. Drive Image will include complete disk integrity and bad sector checking.

Drive Image uses SmartSector™ technology to copy FAT, FAT32, NTFS, and HPFS partitions. When imaging these file systems, the software speeds up the operation by only copying sectors that contain information. Drive Image will also copy Linux, UNIX, and NetWare partitions on a sector-by-sector basis.

PowerQuest is also offering to the corporate market, Drive Image Enterprise™, a hard-disk imaging tool that allows IS managers to quickly and easily clone workstations. Drive Image Enterprise is available in multiple workstation and site licensing options.

PowerQuest is a leading developer of hard-disk utility software. For more information, see PowerQuests home page at http://www.powerquest.com, call +801-437-8900, or send an email message to magic@powerquest.com.
