Mayors from 50 cities compete
for the 2008 World Mayor Award

Citizens from all over the world took part in record numbers in the first round of the 2008 World Mayor contest, which was carried out in 2007. More than 100,000 voters nominated a total of 820 mayors for this year’s World Mayor Award. Some mayors received thousands of nominations while others collected only a handful. Citizens were also asked to provide a supporting statement when nominating a mayor for the World Mayor title. More

You are now invited to choose, from the list of the mayors from 50 cities, the city leader you believe to be most worthy of the title World Mayor 2008. The list includes 11 mayors from Asia, 10 from North America and 11 from Latin America as well as 15 from Europe and 3 from Africa. Vote now



World Mayor Award sculpture
shows courage and conviction

City Mayors commissioned French artist Manuel Ferrari to design a sculpture that was as unique as the city of the winning mayor. City Mayors' senior editor, Tann vom Hove, said: “We asked Manuel Ferrari to produce a design that shows what an inspirational mayor can achieve if he builds on strong foundations.” More




Every two years the world's most outstanding mayor is presented with the World Mayor Award. Previous winners are Edi Rama, Mayor of Tirana, Dora Bakoyannis, Mayor of Athens and John So, Lord Mayor of Melbourne
