The Mozilla Community Store
Design it. Create it. Own it.
HomeCreating a shirt from scratch? Here are a few tips to help guide you through the design process:
Know the rules.
Be sure to familiarize yourself with all the necessary trademark and style guidelines before you begin designing. This is very important, because we review every submission and won’t be able to add your design to the Store if it doesn’t follow these guidelines. We’d hate for your efforts to go to waste!Know your options.
The Community Store is not limited to just Firefox t-shirts…you’re encouraged to create designs for any of the products listed on the “Mozilla Applications” section of the Mozilla.org projects page. (Please note that the Mozilla trademark policy still applies here.)Unfortunately, for legal and trademark reasons we are not able to accept Mozilla or dino-themed designs at this time.
Start with sketches.
This certainly isn’t mandatory, but it’s usually helpful to sketch out your thoughts on paper before rendering them on the computer. Then, pick the best concept and develop it using the design tool you’re most comfortable with.Be creative.
The basic Firefox logo shirt is already sold in the official Mozilla Store. So designs with just the logo will not be accepted. We encourage you to be creative in your design concepts.Use the right software.
To illustrate your design, you can use either scalable vector graphics (SVG), raster-based graphics or a combination of both. If you’re rendering your design on the computer, there are plenty of options to choose from including Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and other open-source alternatives such as Inkscape/GIMP. You can find a good list of SVG software here and raster-based tools here.Stay within the printable area.
Always keep the size of the products in mind when you’re designing. For example, the maximum printable area for t-shirts is a 12x12” box on the front of the shirt (the back defaults to a Firefox logo). Here is detailed information on printable areas for apparel products.Keep your file clean.
The image you submit will be placed on the product as is (with no further editing by us), so be sure to remove any background colors or text that you don’t want to appear.Give us high-resolution files.
Be sure to save your completed design as a JPG or PNG with a resolution between 150-300 dpi. Higher resolution equals greater flexibility and better print quality, so this is very important!Put your name on it.
As part of the upload process, be sure to name your artwork so it will have the proper description once it’s in the Store. We want to make sure you get full credit for your work so if you include your own name with the upload we’ll display that, as well (but if you want to remain anonymous, that’s fine, too).
