QuestionRIA Database Schema Editor, how to promote it?memberBraulio Dez9:20 16 Jan '09
Hello,

I have deployed a Silverlight Based DB Schema editor. For me it's a bit hard to promote it (some sites has accepted it as product show case like Silverlight Show), any tip or advice? where to go? Where the are interested in publish news like this? (normally news sites have too much attitude to put the eye on an app developed by a dude like me Smile).

The link to the site:

http://www.dbschemaeditor.com[^]

Some info about it:

DB Schema Editor is a free RIA Web application that will let you design Database Schemas and generate scripts for SQL Server, My SQL, Postgre SQL, SQLite and Oracle directly from your Browser.

Thanks a lot
Braulio

Are there any developers here who do professional photography during weekends? If so do you mind sharing your thoughts on how you go about doing this. Some interesting bits would be how people perceive you as a photographer (considering you are a programmer in your day job). Whether you enjoy the weekends more than you enjoy writing code. Whether the extra income ever gets large enough to not only cover the costs of expensive SLR lenses and flash equipment, but also add to your savings. Thanks.

I used to be a wedding photog while in college for CS. I got out of it because it was just draining; school, work, plus that. If you are just starting you aren't going to make a lot of money; you have to invest in a lot of equipment plus you need to build a portfolio which means doing some stuff at cost or even lose money to get a good start.

After a couple years I was in high demand; I often did Friday and Saturday weddings back to back. It was good money at that point, but I had no life from May to September, so now I only take pics for myself!

Wow - I didn't know that about you until now Smile

Are you a Nikonian, or a Canon person?

OK, then maybe people here can answer this. I have a background in optics but have never really had the opportunity to test this out but...

What is the idea behind laminating lenses? I often see lens diagrams that show a convex lens snugged right up against a concave lens... why?

Hi,

From Google to Wikipedia to this page[^]:
seems chromatic aberration and spherical aberration get reduced that way.

Ah, you know that makes perfect sense now that I think about it.

Thanks.

Actually neither; I used Minolta for my 35mm and now I am looking at investing in the Cannon D-60. For medium format I use a 4.5 x 6 Bronica w/view finder and speed grip. An extra film load box is also handy for medium format.

Ah okay. I didn't even know that Canon has a D60 too (Nikon has one).

I have a Nikon D80 as well as a D40X. My lens collection is kinda non-existent right now, I just have the 18-55 kit lens from the 40X and I also own a 50mm 1.8 prime. My next purchase will be an external flash, and after that I may also purchase a fast 17-50 F/2.8 Tamron lens. Until I get the flash and the fast Tamron, I don't dare to even attempt to assist someone.

But once I get some practice and get better at taking pics, I'd like to be a 2nd shooter at a wedding or some social event.

That's a bit harsh. Would you take the groom out from the grassy knoll?

Well, I could talk about my wife's experience running a photography business, or about my career as a professional hitman. Your choice.

Maybe your wife could enlighten us about your career hits and provide some artists impressions while doing so. You do know this forum if any will definitely need a way to show pictures, graphics, and charts, pie or otherwise.

Sorry, I meant Nikon! Honestly I have not kept up on all the new cameras over the last few years. I still prefer print photos; the Kodak Portra film is amazing.
