QuestionHow to install .msu help file on vista using Install Shield Or any other application?memberSNI19:29 9 Feb '09
Hi,

We have XP m/c where we are able to get help file (Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu
). We know that Microsoft supports WinHlp32.exe till XP. But we have requirement that we need to provide this help file with our application on vista also. We have set up which is build using Install-Shield and we need to port this (Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu) with our product for vista.

Pls let us know if someone knows how to install this file on Vista thru Install shield or any application (.exe)? Or is there any way we can provide this.

Thanks

SNI

AnswerRe: How to install .msu help file on vista using Install Shield Or any other application?memberSNI20:05 10 Feb '09
Hi,

We have a problem with two different versions of Vista. Vista ultimate and vista enterprise. With Vista ultimate if we install .msu file with "quiet" switch(wusa c:\Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu /quiet) from command prompt then it is working fine but the same operation fails on Vista enterprise. On the m/c we have admin credentials and UAC is disabled.

Suggest on this.

Thanks

How to play an Animation and make video render before logon through credential provider ?(Vista)
It seams VMR9 cannot work fine before logon. It's too slowly to run a wpf process.

QuestionCopy files in Program Files folder under standard accountmemberblackjack21503:04 30 Jan '09
Is it possible to do that? I don't want to use UAC Virtualization or to use admin privileges for that (right click->Run As Admin).

I just want to know if it's possible to do it under any configuration, but it must be standard account. Thanks!

You can change the permissions on the folder to give the Users group write access. But keep in mind the security implications; if a standard user can write there, so can any malware the user tries to run (or is tricked into running).

QuestionApplication developed under vistamemberngugi21:08 23 Jan '09
i have visual studio 2005.net installed in Windows Vista home Premium, and am wondering whether the application i develop while using Vista will still be used in other Windows OSs, as you know many people are still using XP and server 2003?
AnswerRe: Application developed under vistamember«_Superman_»18:05 25 Jan '09
It can be used if you are not using any new APIs introduced in Vista.
If you want to use the new Vista APIs you would first need to check the OS version using GetVersionEx and then dynamically load the APIs using LoadLibrary and GetProcAddress.

QuestionVista Home Premium 64bit vs HP Photosmart 7660 driversmemberJulie Blown22:19 13 Jan '09
Hi
Just treated myself to a HP Pavillion Elite which showed compatable with my hp printer and hp scanner and the rest of my hardware.
Set the pc up no problem. Everything runs except for the printer

To cut a long story short after various complaints to HP, my printer is a HP Photosmart 7660 and there's nothing wrong with it and don't intend in getting another yet.
HP have decided that to run with Vista Home Premium 64bit (not my choice) you can download a driver from them for a 5000 series printer. I upgraded from a 5000 series printer because of all the functions available on the 7660..unfortunately I cannot even clean the print heads because the toolbox is unavailable.

HP have said that there will not be a driver for the 64bit edition as the 5000 series driver is adequate
So is there anyway that a printer driver can be made to save my sanity and everyone else who has the same problems. Cry
QuestionVista won't boot after swapping second drivememberWjousts16:31 12 Dec '08
I have Vista set up on a system with two drives, a 240Gb boot drive (cSmile with Vista Ultimate installed and a 200Gb drive (dSmile which mostly has applications installed (ok, actually games). No Vista system files appear to live on the D: drive, only a program files folder with a bunch of game subfolders. I wanted to pull the old 200 Gb drive out and replace it with a new 640 Gb drive so I could slip the 200 Gb drive into an old computer and get it up and running again (maybe I'll try some variety of Linux on it). Anyway, I installed the 640 Gb drive temporarily alongside the other two drives and copy everything from d: to the new drive. Then I shut down, pull the SATA cable out of D and stick it in the new drive so that it should now be seen as D when I reboot and I can take the old drive out altogether. Easy right?
No, when I tried to reboot Windows with the old D drive disconnected it won't start. It hangs up asking for a valid boot drive. Reconnecting the old drive again and everything boots fine. After a bit of searching I can across a suggestion to run bcdedit and when I do I can see two objects, one of which {bootmgr} is set on drive D. This looks like it might be the cause of the problem, but I have no idea how to fix it. There doesn't seem to be anything on D related to bootmgr (there is no path \bootmgr on D). I'd prefer not to hose my installation and end up having to reinstall Vista.
Does anybody have any good suggestions?

Edit: BTW, I tried the repair installation option from the Vista DVD and no luck, of course.

Here's what bcdedit gives me:

QuestionTrying to copy an access database file in VISTAmembermyNameIsRon20:32 5 Dec '08
Hi,
Trying to use Windows Explorer to copy/paste a .mdb (MS Access file) to another folder. When I open the newly created file (in MS Access) I see that the database is emply (original file has data). It's like the copy reverts back to the original state (empty). The also happens when I try to email the database (.mdb) file.

AnswerRe: Vista Booting.memberVKupunaram23:35 23 Nov '08
Did you install Xp after installing vista..
GeneralRe: Vista Booting.membernon-bugging Errors23:52 23 Nov '08
first Vista then XP.
GeneralRe: Vista Booting.memberVKupunaram22:18 24 Nov '08
Always Load Lower version OS and then Higher version OS. In your case you should have loaded XP first and then Vista. Then you could have seen dual booting option
GeneralRe: Vista Booting.memberVKupunaram22:19 24 Nov '08
You will have to format and then load again.
AnswerRe: Vista Booting.mvpMichael Dunn12:55 5 Dec '08
Boot from the Vista DVD and use the repair option. That will restore Vista's boot files.
