 | Do not show this dialog again :-( | | stammailbox | 22hrs 28mins ago |

Hi, I am working on a cpp proj in vs2005. I accidently pressed on "Do not show this dialog again" on the following question "These project configurations are out of date ... Would you like to build them?" Now it doesnt ask me anymore and it builds every run . Anyone here knows how to get this message box back ?

Navigate to the following settings.
Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run
Change the settings in the On Run, when projects are out of date combo box.

 | Maintaining simple documents within VSexp 2005/2008 | | supercat9 | 8:29 12 Feb '09 |

Is there any nice way of maintaining text documents within VS 2005/2008 with--at minimum--word-wrap functionality equivalent to Notepad? It's possible to add files to a project with extension .txt and not have the compiler try to do anything with them, but trying to maintain paragraph formatting by hand is rather tiresome. Is there a better way?

Hi,
you can add whatever file you want to a VS project. a text document can be edited with VS if need be, you can set its Properties/BuildAction to None even if you don't want word wrapping in (some) languages, you can turn on word wrapping in Tools/Options/TextEditor/General and turn it off for specific programming languages.
and you can assign an external tool to a specific file, so you could open a project's TXT file in Notepad too.
PS: the above checked on VS2008 Express, probably also true for 2005 and maybe earlier versions.

 | Configuring Visual Studio for multiple displays | | Robert Goerss | 13:19 11 Feb '09 |
|
 |
Hello everyone! This is my first post on CodeProject. I have lurked for quite some time and even drafted a few articles without ever committing any of them. This is my first step at changing my lurking ways.
First off, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the authors and contributors here. I have learned quite a bit from the various projects, examples and so forth that exist here at CodeProject.
Second, I have a general question about the blog system. I created a blog in order to share some of my musings on C# and Visual Studio, but I cannot seem to create a blog entry using it.
In the interim, I do some freelance writing and blogging over at Icrontic.com (A general tech site) and I posted a blog about configuring Visual Studio 2008 for use on multiple displays there.
Visual Studio 2008 coerced onto dual-display[^]
The reason for the article is simple: For years now I have worked with many people -- perhaps hundreds -- using various versions of Visual Studio and I have yet to meet anyone who uses Visual Studio across multiple displays. They all use their secondary displays for browsing CodeProject (heh) or MSDN, etc.
Personally, I love using my secondary display as a Super Tool Window[^], and it is my hope that by sharing my configuration and experience in doing so I can turn on some other developers to multi-monning VS9!
So with all that being said, is anybody else here running a similar configuration? I currently work with about 100 other developers and I'm the only one.

 | VS 2005 Setup & Deployment - Condition Question | | JBAK_CP | 11:22 10 Feb '09 |
|
 |
Hi, I have a VS2005 Setup & Deployment project and I want to use a Windows installer condition to check to see if a folder already exists (sub-folder in the Application Folder hierarchy). I used the condition 'NOT Installed' in the properties for my sub-folder in the File System tab, but it looks like it's installing the sub-folder every time. Is 'NOT Installed' the right property to check to see if a folder already exists, or is that only used to check if the application is installed or not?
Thanks

Visual Studion 2005 has a XSD designer but in VS 2008, I think the designer support to create XSD is revoked. If anyone of you is aware of this feature in VS 2008, kindly inform me.

 | Visual Studio Debugger carries on when app is finished. | | fly904 | 8:59 29 Jan '09 |

Hi,
I have a simple Windows Form which I execute with the debugger. When I exit the window, the VS environment is still in debug mode and needs me to manually stop it.
I executed the exiting of the form (protected override void Dispose(bool disposing)) line by line and when it finished that then the finished the main function there was no more debugging but the debugger was still on.
I am using VS2008 on Vista Business.
Any suggestions?
Cheers Fly

Hi,
this is probably an easy one too... When I try to send an email notification, I get an error, saying the virtual machine is not properly configured to send emails....
I found a document saying I have to edit the web.config within the \program files -directory of the Foundation Server-..... which I did. But the error is still the same
any suggestions how to get this going?
Thanks

 | Visual Studio Team System vs Team Explorer | | piratenwichtl | 22:29 27 Jan '09 |
|
 |
Hi,
I am new to Team Foundation Server.. so its probably an easy question.. anyway I am not able to find out whats wrong.
1. I installed Team Foundation Server successfully... sweet! 2. I then installed Team Explorer 3. I opened the Web-Portal and started to configure it...
what puzzles me is -- I got tasks within my Team Explorer and I got tasks within my Web-Portal. I would have thought if you enter a task, doesnt matter where, that you would find it on both ends, in the team explorer AND the web portal.
But the tasks I add to my team explorer are not visible from the web portal and vice versa.
Why is this? Am I doing something wrong?
Please help me Cheers Piratenwichtl Reply·Email·View Thr

 | Exec task (inside a builddefinition...tfsbuild.proj) | | jjustshootmee | 12:38 23 Jan '09 |

have a builddef setup that has a trigger based on code check-in. the build gets queued on the build server. one of the last things it needs to do is fire-off an outside application.
cannot get this to work
. . . Target Name="MyCustom1" Exec WorkingDirectory="c:\OutputsForRelease" Command="someapp.exe" Target . . .
it gets queued and seems to hang indefinitly. you can view it in the BuildExplorer and see that all the steps are complete up to that point. if I cancel the build, the remaining steps complete and the build will then show as completed.
the workingdirectory exists and the someapp.exe exists.
if I take the same custom Target and place it inside the csproj file, do a build/rebuild inside of VS IDE, it runs just fine.
seems so simple. what am I missing? something obvious?
