ASCII is a list of printable characters. Function-keys are not printable characters. You can catch the KeyDown event, and ask what key the user pressed;

switch (e.KeyCode)
{
case Keys.F1:
openHelpFile();
break;
case Keys.F3:
searchFiles();
break;
case Keys.F11:
// Open the underwater-screen
break;
}

Hope this helps Smile

Questionexecute something before windows starts - how-to ?memberTalBeta19hrs 26mins ago
I need to execute code before windows XP starts (in order to copy protected files). Does somebody know how it can be done ?

if not, how can I change the NTLDR (since it is protected) ?

Confused

There's a cool example here[^]. Copy the files under a temp name on the machine, move to rename them on reboot (effectively overwriting the current versions)

Don't. Imagine that Chuck Norris downloads and installs your app. Imagine that the app corrupts NTLDR. Imagine Chuck Norris not being able to boot into his system, while the name of the app (and the author) still linger in his mind..

That's great. Exactly what I was looking for.

Just out of curiosity - there are programs (offline defrag, partitions handling, ..) that completely run before windows - is there a simple way (without the boot-record-risk to anger Chuck) to do this ?
GeneralRe: execute something before windows starts - how-to ?memberEddy Vluggen6mins ago
Windows sets a dirty-bit on the harddisk when it shuts down. On (re!)boot, it checks whether this bit is set, and if so, performs the scanning.

There's the BootExecute[^] section in your registry (HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\Session Manager), but that can't be used to run .NET applications. Even native applications got a hard time there, since not all Windows' functionality is loaded at that point yet.

Next in line would be the logon-screen (though you prolly don't want to replace GINA) and Windows Services. Those get run before you log in, but after Windows has been started.

Hope this helps Smile

QuestionTaskbar text and Window Title show different textmemberKashif Iqbal Khan23hrs 13mins ago
I have been working on .Net 1.1 application that has a MDI form. Sometimes it happens that when Text property of MDI form is set, it is not reflected in the task bar button. However the MDI window titlebar displays the correct value.

After a little googling I found out that people have been facing this issue. But I could not locate any fix/solution.

Any help would be highly appreciated

QuestionHow to disable forms validation on abort button click?memberMember 46152964:22 16 Apr '09
Hello,

I have a form with some controls which implement custom validation.

The form also has Cancel and OK buttons wired up as the forms dialogresult buttons. If you press the Ok button the form does not close if a control did not validate, which is good. But the same happens on pressing Abort, although I just don't care about the values anymore... and the form never closes.

How can I disable the forms control validation when pressing the Abort button?

Any help appreciated, thanks,
Andreas

AnswerRe: How to disable forms validation on abort button click?memberHenry Minute23hrs 25mins ago
On your 'Cancel/Abort' button change the CausesValidation property to false. That's it! Easy peasy!

Unfortunately I do not get the Abort button's click event, because the invalid controls keep focus. Have tried that already...
GeneralRe: How to disable forms validation on abort button click?memberHenry Minute21hrs 38mins ago
Is the abort buttons DialogResult property set to Cancel? Also you might want to set the Forms CancelButton property to point at the Abort button, so that users can press Esc to get out.

Yes, I always wire up Cancel and Ok Buttons like this (in the form AND on the buttons).

Users can also klick the top right "X" to close the Form. But having a working abort button is more intuitive me thinks... D'Oh!

In that case I'm stumped!

I'll keep thinking about it, though. Smile

QuestionTo hide a Logon Message during GINA timememberShashi.Shinde21:45 15 Apr '09
Hi,
In a AD domain environment, when we set a user's password to expire in say 45 days... during the last 14 or 10 days, the user gets a warning message on gina login saying "your password is set to expire in X days. Do you want to reset your password now?".

I want to know if there's a way to remove this message from prompting users.
There may be any options in ----- AD policy settings OR attribute OR some other hack.

So please help me soon ,how can i give this privilege to system.

Thanks in advance.
Have a nice day.

There is a policy setting that you can change, though I can't remember exactly where it is. I think it was labeled something like "Prompt user to change password before expiration".

Your question makes absolutely no sense at all. And what does this have to do with Windows Forms??
