Kamala Beach Activities

What to Do in Kamala Beach

Looking back at the Kamala of not long ago, the village did not have much to offer to tourists beside the fantastic beach, the tropical greenery and friendly locals. Nowadays all those important factors are still there but Kamala has moved away from its ‘sleepy village’ image.

Better facilities, new and high-quality hotels are now part of the local scene and for fun and interesting activities in Kamala, the options are also better these days, with Thai cooking classes, yoga classes, spa and Thai massage and the only lawn bowling green in Phuket.

Thai Cooking Classes

Many people after trying Thai food can’t help but want more. The mixture of the five main tastes blending together is quite something. While in Kamala, check out the three-hour Thai cooking class at the Print Kamala Resort. You will discover that cooking Thai food is relatively simple, full of fun and takes a lot less time to prepare than many other national cuisines. Popular dishes taught there include the famous phad Thai, deep-fried spring rolls served with plum sauce and stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts, oyster sauce and vegetables. All are yummy!

Yoga Classes

Yoga is no stranger to Phuket; in fact many find it the perfect place to practice and even learn here. Many professionals have relocated to Phuket and hold classes, mostly in English by native English instructors, all over the island. Such centres include Karuna Yoga & Meditation Center (+66 (0) 87-8858622) located within the Nakatani Village residential development minutes from Kamala. Teachings are offered based on all three major branches of Buddhism: Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana

Alternatively contract Shiv Yoga Studio at the Boat Lagoon (+66 (0) 84 6264694) or Julie at the Ganesha Yoga Shala located in Rawai (+66 (0) 89 8682639) for private lessons or lessons at your resort. Shiv Yoga Studio offers classes for all levels in a variety of yoga styles including Power Ashtanga/Vinyasa, Hatha and Flowing Hatha. Julie Hirunchai is one of Phuket’s top Ashtanga Yoga teachers and a long-term resident.

Spa and Thai massage

Spa treatment is not limited exclusively to women. Many men try it out and like it a lot. Kamala features many good and reputable spa centres (most of them are located within resorts) and it would be a pity if your visit did not include this special experience in pampering. The treatments are usually a mixture of local and international spa techniques and you will find a selection of treatments, from traditional Thai massage to facials to treatment for sun-damaged skin, body scrubs and wraps. Most spas offer also Jacuzzi and sauna facilities. For where to go, you can start with the list below.

Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Kamala Beach open daily 10:00- 19:00

Kamala Lawn Bowling Club

The original aim of the owners of Kamala Lawn Bowling Club was to create a venue for retired people but this lawn bowling centre (the one and only in Phuket) is a place for everyone, young, old, professionals or beginners. Many resident families go there regularly for an afternoon out as they have food and drink provided at the bar on the side as well as a karaoke room. Shoes, bowls and towels are provided by the club. Hotel pickup is available for a very minor charge.
