Golf in Koh Samui

From mini-golf to the real thing. Samui's golf scene is moving forward. The island's first and currently only, professional standard golf course, opened in 2003 offering a gorgeous location in the hills above Maenam. If you prefer something less challenging, there's always mini-golf.

Golf Shops

Samui Golf and Sports Centre has a sizable range of clubs, clothes, hats and shoes for sale or rent. Alexander also offers private tuition, which can be arranged at the shop.  Tesco Lotus, Route 4169, Tel: 077 245 384, open 10am-9pm daily. Splash at the Central Shopping Arcade also sells a small range of branded clubs and shirts. Golf Clubs

Opened with a lot of fanfare in 2003, the Santiburi Samui Country Club is Samui's first, and currently only, professional standard golf course. Owned by the nearby Santiburi Resort, the course in situated in the hills above Maenam and has spectacular views of Koh Phangan. At over 3000 Baht a round, the green fees are high by Thai standards and the course itself requires a reasonable degree of proficiency and is probably not recommended for beginners. Mini Golf International

Mini Golf International is Thailand's only professional mini golf course and a Member of the World Mini-Golf Federation. It can be found in the jungle above Choeng Mon. Tel. 01 787 9148

Frisbee Golf

Hugely popular in the USA, Frisbee Golf is now available in Bophut. Anyone dispirited by the thought of endless hours on the links, hopelessly hacking away at the turf in order to get the ball within 100m of the hole, should give it a try. For a mere 500 Baht, players can spend a full day on the 18-hole course and play as many rounds as they want. Trees and bushes provide obstacles and, just like traditional golf, there are drivers and putters (in this case discs of different thicknesses) to help hone your aim and a 19^th Hole Bar waiting with ice-cold beer at the end of the course.
