Where to Eat in Karon Beach

You know you've hit Karon when you reach this highly visible roundabout at the north end of the beach. To the north lies Patong, while to south you'll find Karon beach, and farther along, Kata and then Nai Harn. If you like dining out, Karon Beach is full of good options. The quality and quantity of restaurants here make Karon as equally good as any other beaches in Phuket.

Karon North

Dining Room at Pacific Club

The Dining Room, located in Pacific Club Resort up the hill to Nong Han Lake's East side, comes highly recommended. The restaurant features snug hacienda-like décor and a superb steak menu as well as a good wine list. Look for the resort's signage and follow the road up the hill, it's worth it. Mali Waterfront Seafood

Mali Waterfront Seafood & Lounge Bar is a dining oasis that’s set against the backdrop of a lagoon, the Andaman Sea and picturesque mountain views. It's a pretty groovy-looking place, famous for its Full Moon parties and popular with young holidaymakers. The menu consists of predominantly Thai, seafood, local 'Hokkien-Chinese' Phuket dishes and international fare. Prices are a little above average.

Beachfront Restaurants at Nong Han Lake

These beachfront restaurants are popular with visitors largely because of their superb location. They also handily sit close to the public showers and toilet facilities. Such restaurants include Family Seafood, Pranee Seafood and Ren & Auddy Restaurant. Fare is mostly fresh seafood but you can order standard Thai dishes such as tom yam, phad tai, noodles and fried rice as well as some Western food. The restaurants are clean and run in simple way, with nothing fancy about their decoration.

Tony Restaurant & Bar

Tony Restaurant & Bar offers authentic Thai cuisine and an extensive selection of European food. They have a snooker table. Enjoy the breeze and views from the second-floor terrace overlooking beautiful Karon Bay.
Open: For breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Location: Next to In On the Beach Resort, near Nong Han Lake on the beachfront. Look for the big statue of the fisherman.

Heritage Cuisine

This restaurant is part of the Sino–Portuguese style Phuket Heritage Resort. The restaurant serves Thai and international food, a perfect place for people who prefers to dine in a quiet and lovely atmosphere.

Golden Sand Inn

A lovely place to sit and enjoy meals, from breakfast to dinner; its great advantage is its location, just a few steps from the beach (with a road in between.).

Karon Circle

Following the road that runs east (inland) from the circle, you'll find one of the main centres of the Karon area. This street has some of the most established restaurants in Karon, as well as a few bars and pubs for a before (or after) dinner cocktails along the road up towards Karon Temple.

Branching off of the main road there are two small sois (side streets) where you'll find shops, guest-houses and plenty of good food. The first of these sois (nearest to the circle) is the home of Karon Café, an institution in Phuket with some of the best European and American food anywhere on the island.

Karon Café

The main features here are the juicy steaks; flown in unfrozen from Australia and prepared to perfection under the supervision of American owner 'Uncle' Eric. Karon Café's steaks are a delight, especially when paired with the complimentary soup and salad bar and a smooth and robust Australian red wine. A sister restaurant to the Dining Room and Margaritas.

Whale Poolside

Whale Resort has a cool poolside restaurant that's open to the public. Thai favourites and buffets are the norm, great for a snack in the middle of some poolside sunbathing.

Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid, named after the famous statue which guards the entrance to Copenhagen harbour, serves authentic and delicious Scandinavian food.

Two Chefs

Following their successful operations in Kata, the Swedish-run Two Chefs now boasts a branch in Karon. Good food with a very agreeable family atmosphere.

Royal Tandoor House

Further down the soi, Royal Tandoor House deals in authentic North Indian cuisine such as masala, biryani and, of course, tandoori chicken.

The second of these connecting sois is located at the eastern end of the road and offers several dining choices at mid-range prices. Rattana, Papaya and Up Seafood offer fresh food prepared using mouth-watering Thai recipes, while Kashmir India offers a second choice for a tasty Indian curry.

Karon - South of Karon Circle

The Beach Road has a gaggle of restaurants at its northern end near the traffic circle and it makes a nice evening stroll to choose between them.

Andaman Coffee Co

One of many branches on the island, this lovely coffee shop offers open-air and air-conditioned sections with WiFi. A good place to escape from the hot sun and just watch the world go by.

Buffalo Steakhouse

This steakhouse has long been one of the most successful restaurants on the island, with four venues in Phuket, and their Karon north location maintains their high standard of quality. Prices are affordable.

Navrang Mahal

A well-known Phuket Indian restaurant serving North Indian dishes, freshly prepared by experienced chefs and served in brass Katoris in the Royal Mughal style of the bygone Emperors of India.

Part of the Moevenpick Resort and Spa, El Gaucho offers a real South American steak experience. Also serving seafood, El Gaucho has admirably high standards if you are prepared to pay a little extra for the pleasure of fine dining.

Middle Karon

The Aroona Karon Complex is located roughly located in the middle of Karon Beach. Aroona Karon contains about half a dozen restaurants that run the gamut of cuisines from Thai to Italian to Swedish. Mixed in with the eateries are a few bars, as well as some souvenir and sundry shops.

Hilton Phuket Arcadia

A beachfront hotel, the Hilton Arcadia's grounds are huge but its excellent restaurants are centrally located and well marked. Buon Appetito is a well-conceived Italian outlet, while Thai Thai is… you guessed it, and Sails Restaurant is well worth checking out for its excellent breakfasts and Sunday brunches. Yes, the food comes at hotel prices but the wine lists and delivery are superb.

Al Dente

Karlsson's Steakhouse and Pizzeria

One of the most well-known and well-liked restaurants in Phuket. Also on hand are European, American and Thai dishes, so you're sure to find something that whets your appetite.

Karon South

The main difficulty here is making the choice between so many great options. While Lung Pho Chuan Road and the border between South Karon and North of Kata Beach are packed with restaurants, budget travelers should not overlook options on Patak Road, which is full of food stands and stalls.

Long Beach Terrace in Thavorn Palm Beach Resort

Long Beach Terrace serves great seafood, steaks and Italian specialties. It is one of the best places to see the sun set in Karon Bay.

Location: On the Beach Road in Thavorn Palm Beach Resort. (Enter the 'Dragon's Mouth' on the Beach Road to access Long Beach Terrace.) There is also access from Luang Poh Chuan Road.

Luang Poh Chuan Road

Luang Poh Chuan Road is home to several popular restaurants. On the main road there are plenty of mid-range options with mixed Thai and international menus. Belman's, Robin House, Ed's and Chilli & Shell all offer good value and varied menus, sure to make everyone in the party happy, no matter what their tastes.

Standing out from the crowd is Harry's Steakhouse (Tel: +66 7639-8258) on Soi Bangla (yes, there are two Soi Banglas in Phuket). This is a relaxed and family friendly place that delivers unpretentious but delicious food and drinks. Open from 15:00 to 23:00.

At the eastern end of this road you'll find Bling's Burgers and Beer, an American-style place that's pretty much the way it sounds: no-nonsense blue collar food, cold beer and sports on the TV. Across the road on the main Patak Road, there is Mani's German Bakery (+66 (0) 76 396 882) selling rye bread, malt bread, onion bread, whole meal bread and pretzels. They also offer a selected choice of cold cuts, sausages, meatloaf and a variety of cakes. Open for breakfast from 07:00 - 14.30.

Seafood Restaurants

As you head south towards Karon after the Luang Poh Chuan Road you'll see about seven or eight Thai style seafood restaurants on your left. The restaurants include; Sompong & Mala, Bounty and Best Friend Restaurant. Many people claim that these places are the best for genuine Thai food. Reasonable rates.

Ruen Thep

One of the few restaurants on the island where you can dine with the sand between your toes, Ruen Thep is great for sundowners and grilled seafood.
Location: At the southernmost tip of Karon Beach.

Food stalls on the sois off Patak Road

Cheap Thai eats are found at the food stalls on the sois off Patak Road. Observe where the guesthouse staff members on their lunch break go to get the best fried noodles, basil chili chicken, grilled pork, and som tam for no more than 50 baht.
