SECURITY AGENDA FOR MSG
The Director-General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat, Mr Peter Forau encouraged members to advance on security priorities during its Sub-Committee meeting on Security Issues at the Police Academy today. Director General Forau said with a safe and secure region, MSG members can promote security for it’s members and co-exist peacefully.
NEED TO BOOST INTRA-MSG TRADE- PS SHAHEEN ALI
There is a need to boost the intra-Melanesian Spearhead Group trade as some MSG countries currently charge higher tariffs than the normal “most favoured nations (MFN) ” tariff. Special Trade and Economic Officials Meeting chair and Fiji’s Ministry of Industry and Trade permanent secretary Mr Shaheen Ali told trade officials at the MSG meeting today that “intra-MSG trade is small compared to trade with non-MSG partners”.
LEGAL EXPERTS SCRUTINISE VISA ARRANGEMENT TO BENEFIT MSG MEMBERS
The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) at its meeting today discussed legal and institutional issues at its Special Sub-Committee on Legal and Institutional Issues (SCLII) meeting at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, Fiji. The Chair of the SCLII meeting and Director for Political and Treaties Division at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Esala Nayasi said the participants from the MSG member countries including PNG, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji will discuss the MSG visa arrangements.
MR HIDEO KIJI COMMISSIONED AS THE REPUBLIC OF FIJI's c HONORARY CONSUL IN KANAGAWA
Mr Hideo Kiji was commissioned as the Republic of Fiji’s Honorary Consul in Kanagawa this week at the Royal Park Hotel in Yokohama. While solemnizing the occasion, Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan His Excellency Mr Isikeli Mataitoga congratulated Mr Hideo Kiji and expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Fiji for accepting the appointment. Mr Mataitoga added that his vision, when he assumed the appointment of Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan in 2009, was to deepen all forms of bilateral relations between Fiji and Japan.
