Myaung Dagar Industrial Zone 80pc done
THE Myaung Dagar Steel Industrial Zone in Hmawbi, Yangon Division,
is now 80 percent complete, said an official from the Department
of Human Settlement and Housing Development recently.
“The aim of this project is to group all the steel factories
in one place,” he said, adding that it would also lead to
better infrastructure in the area and create jobs.
The project, which began in 2006, covers an area of about 1016
acres and has been split into three phases.
“Of the total area, infrastructure accounts for 395.19 acres,
while the industrial sector itself is 620.38 acres.
“We’ve already sold 37 of the 327 2-acre plots that
make up the zone,” he said, adding that the plots were sold
at a cost of K18.4 million an acre.
He said work on Phase One started in early 2006, Phase Two began
about one year later, while the construction of Phase Three started
early in 2008.
“All the infrastructure – like the roads, electricity
network and drainage – in Phases One and Two have been finished
but Phase Three only has roughly built roads to date,” he
said.
Electricity to power what is likely to be an extremely power-hungry
enterprise is already taken care of in the form of one 100MVA
transformer linked to the Bago-Kamarnat substation in Bago Division,
he added. – Htar Htar Khin
Work to resume on Taw Win Complex
TAW WIN Family Construction has re-started construction work
on its complex on Pyay Road, Dagon township, said U Ko Ko Htway,
the company’s chairman.
Work on the 25-storey building started in 2004 but was quickly
halted as the banking crisis shuttered operations countrywide.
He said the complex has an expected completion date of October
2009 and the few months leading up to the coming monsoon will
be crucial.
“We plan to accelerate this project before the coming rainy
season and have already laid the foundation,” he said.
The 2.43-acre complex will include a shopping centre, several
small theatres, offices, an amusement zone and residential apartments.
According to the project’s plan, there will be 400 shops,
170 offices and five theatres.
U Ko Ko Htway said the complex will be unlike any other in Myanmar;
and this extends to sale of retail spaces or rooms.
“We don’t plan to sell any of the rooms at all and
will only be allowing people and companies to lease or rent,”
he said.
There will also be 1000 car parks, he said, adding that Taw Win
Family Construction will bear the entire cost of construction.
However, he refused to reveal how much this is expected to be.
