History
The roots of DatabaseUSA.com® go all of the way back to 1972, when Vin Gupta realized the importance and need for accurate business information in the sales and marketing world. Since he could not find any quality data sources for small business needs, Vin Gupta started infoUSA® (first named Business Research Services, then changed to American Business Lists and then American Business Information) with $100 that he borrowed from a friend. He gained access to all of the yellow pages – and began compiling his first list for mobile home dealers. For the next 13 years, Vin Gupta and his associates compiled and categorized the entirety of the United States Yellow Pages directories, with a substantial demand from small-business customers. Upon its IPO in 1993, American Business Lists underwent many changes in the ensuing years, becoming infoUSA and, later, infoGROUP®.
In August 2008, Vin retired from his post as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at infoGROUP®, leaving a legacy of hands-on leadership and measurable performance with his company. infoGROUP® was sold to CCMP for $650 million in July 2010.
Vin Gupta was excited to move forward. He decided to establish a new, improved venture with similar roots. Together with his co-founders, they created AtoZdatabases, DatabaseUSA.com® and infofree.com. This co-founding team brought over 300 years of database knowledge to DatabaseUSA.com® and it’s sister companies.
“I rewrote the book on business database compilation, which made my former companies very successful. Now we are going a step further by using the websites of the company and telephone verification to obtain information. This allows us to add more depth and accuracy to our business database.”
