George Clooney Talks ‘Monuments Men,’ Playing Batman in Reddit AMA

George Clooney participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) Tuesday afternoon, and although he did reveal a lot about his best pranks, his costar friends and his favorite sandwich (ham with a little avocado), he also shed some light about his upcoming movie “The Monuments Men” and his role as Batman.

When asked by a redditor what inspired him to make “The Monuments Men,” which will be in theaters Feb. 7, Clooney recalled some of his more serious roles while working with Grant Heslov, his producing and writing partner.

“Grant and I finished shooting ‘The Ides of March’ and looked back at the films we’d been doing, and it was nothing but cynical films,” Clooney wrote. “We’re really not cynical people, so we thought we should do one with a positive view of the world. Grant had read the book and said maybe this is a film … It was less about art in what we were looking for and more about looking for a new interesting story.”

While redditors hailed Clooney with support for his latest venture, they weren’t quick to forget about his less popular roles. When asked whether or not he regretted playing Batman, Clooney didn’t say “yes” or “no,” but instead spoke to the friendships he’s made (and didn’t make).

“Some of the best films have been the least fun experiences and some of the worst, I’ve made lifelong friends out of it. It’s the kind of thing where the memory of the film is very different than how it was reviewed, because it’s months out of your life and you end up making close friends or having great experience on films that don’t necessarily work. And that’s a tricky thing to come to terms with.”
