    Our features our colleague Marzia Bernardini, back in the LHC tunnel. While more colleagues have started to come back to CERN this week, the full return to normalcy will be a long and gradual process, with regular reviewing of the plan.

    that cooling is also essential for running the LHC? However, we don't recommend a superfluid helium cooling bath for your summer drinks... 🤯

    CERN's cryogenic systems cool over 1000 magnets on the LHC to temperatures close to absolute zero, where matter takes on some unusual properties.

    This picture is of the Vacuum Tank, which consists of stainless-steel cylinders that house the magnet. It was taken before the installation into the thermal shield, in 2008. Two years later, CMS would start collecting data from the LHC beam.

    After several weeks in safe-mode, today CERN re-starts on-site activities. Over the next weeks, those that have been teleworking will gradually return to CERN, to join the colleagues that were on-site. We look forward to a noisy, bustling CERN in September! 💪
