Export and import block patterns

To move a pattern from one site to another, you can export and import the pattern as a JSON file. This is helpful if you want to reuse your custom patterns across multiple WordPress.com sites. In this guide, you will learn how to export and import patterns.

Export a block pattern

Exporting a pattern lets you save your custom design as a JSON file, so you can use it on another WordPress.com site or keep a backup for later. To export a pattern, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
  3. Click Patterns and navigate to My Patterns to see the patterns you have created.
  4. Click the three dots () under the pattern.
  5. Click “Export as JSON” to download the file to your computer.

To export multiple patterns, use the checkboxes to select them, then click the Export as JSON icon at the bottom of the screen. A compressed file containing each pattern will be saved to your computer.

  2. Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
  3. Click Patterns and navigate to My Patterns to see the patterns you have created.
