Manage and reset your style changes

This guide shows you how to restore previous versions of your styles or reset them entirely to start fresh. You’ll learn how to use style revisions to go back to earlier designs and how to reset all styles to return to your theme’s default appearance.

Restore style revisions

Every time you save changes to your styles, WordPress.com creates a revision. To restore a previous version of your site’s styles:

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor from your site’s dashboard.
  2. Click the Revisions option at the bottom of the Design menu.
  3. Click a revision to preview how your site looked with those styles.
  4. Click the Apply button when you find the revision you want to use.
  5. Click Save to apply these changes to your site.

Reset all styles

You can remove all custom styles you’ve applied and return to your theme’s default appearance. This helps if you want to start fresh or remove premium styles you applied without upgrading to an eligible plan.

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Go to Appearance → Editor.
  3. Click the preview on the right to open the Site Editor.
  4. Click the Styles icon (a circle with one white and one black half) in the top toolbar.
  5. In the Styles panel that appears, click the three dots menu (⋮) and select Reset styles.

This resets all your Typography, Colors, and Layout changes. Only style settings are reset, not changes to content or site settings.

Reset specific style elements

To reset styles for specific elements only:

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor from your site’s dashboard.
  2. Select the specific style category (Typography, Colors, Background, Shadows, or Layout) or a specific block.
    • In Typography, click a specific element (text, links, etc.) to reset the typography for that element.
  3. Click the three dots menu (⋮) and select Reset all.

If you haven’t changed any styles, the Reset all option will appear grayed out.
