Federal trial for Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller pushed to October 2026

The federal trial for John Paul Miller, a Myrtle Beach pastor, has been continued to October, according to a court order filed Wednesday.

Miller’s pretrial conference, scheduled for Aug. 25, has been canceled.

Miller has been granted several continuances this year.

Court records show Miller was granted a continuance after a defense motion, with the consent of federal prosecutors. The court found that the delay serves the interests of justice and outweighs the interest in a speedy trial.

The case has been continued to the October 2026 term of court.

Judge Joseph Dawson III signed the order Wednesday.

In December 2025, Miller was charged with one count of cyberstalking and one count of lying to federal investigators.

Prosecutors said Miller admitted to hiring a private investigator to protect Mica from buying firearms, but actually hired the investigator to cyberstalk his late wife over alleged adultery. The indictment also said he lied about damaging Mica’s tires.

The indictment came nearly two years after Mica’s death at Lumber River State Park in Robeson County. The medical examiner ruled her death a suicide caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In the months leading up to Mica’s death, police reports detailed multiple incidents in which Mica told officers she was being harassed and feared for her life.

Miller is out of jail on a $100,000 bond.
