It's Official: New X-Files Comic Has A Release Window

The X-Files is set to make a return to the small screen after the revival seasons on Hulu struggled to achieve a strong reception. Before the next televised remake of The X-Files can manifest on small screens, Dynamite Entertainment has an entirely new series in store.

Writer Joe Harris and artist Riley Brown have been confirmed to lead the new X-Files comics, and the release date has been expedited significantly. Screen Rant announced that the series would originally embrace a February 2027 release, but has since confirmed that The X-Files will now hit shelves in December 2026. There's no assigned release date yet, but it's still exciting to know that the much-loved series' print reboot will land in the fans by year's end. There's not much known about The X-Files comics reboot, yet perhaps it's the mysterious nature that makes the curious remake even more enticing.

A cover for the comic was revealed, and Dynamite teased eager fans with an early look at character designs. Excitingly enough, the assumed leads of the stories share similar traits to David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's iconic depictions of Mulder and Scully, who are confirmed to return for the comic book. Dynamite has heavily leaned into the legacy route for beloved fan-favorite titles like Firefly and Supernatural; it's safe to say that they can be trusted with such a groundbreaking work of television.

There's no solicit published by Dynamite yet, though Harris did share a statement that underscores his excitement in bringing The X-Files back to life. "From my own early TV fandom on Friday and Sunday nights to getting to work on one of the greatest supernatural thriller/science fiction franchises in history, the further adventures of Agents Mulder and Scully have occupied a very special place in my head and career. I am beyond honored to write them, and I am absolutely over the moon to work with Dynamite on this new series, he said.

Ryan Coogler Is Rebooting The X-Files For Streaming

Also without a release date is Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot, which is still expected to land on Hulu. Collider has reported that the pilot episode has wrapped filming and has entered the post-production phase, though any timely updates as to when fans can expect the series to return through a live-action lens are minimal. The entertainment publication previously shared The X-Files reboot's new logline, which claims that "the show will follow a pair of equally decorated but dissimilar FBI agents who develop a close relationship when they're assigned to a long-shuttered branch of the agency dedicated to investigating unexplained phenomena."

Deadline confirmed that the leading FBI agents will be played by Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, though their characters are yet to be named. Joining them are Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand and Sofia Grace Clifton; Coogler will both write and direct the pilot episode.

Dynamite's The X-Files comic will arrive sometime in December.
