Instagram for Government and Nonprofits

Inspire your community with engaging content on Instagram.

Instagram is the place where you can inspire your community and showcase the passion that drives your organization.

Get started on Instagram.

  • You can create an account from the Instagram app or Instagram.com.
  • If you already have an existing Facebook or Instagram account, you can use your existing account to create a new Instagram account. Both accounts will be added to the same Accounts Center and have access to connected experiences.
  • For governments and nonprofits, we recommend creating an Instagram Business Account to maximize available Instagram features.

Verified badges mean that an account has been verified based on their activity across our products and information or documents that they provide.

In addition to following Instagram's Terms of Use and Community Standards, your account also needs to be:

  • Authentic: Represent a real person, registered business or entity.
  • Unique: Represent the unique presence of the person or business. Only one account per person or business may be verified, with exceptions for language-specific accounts. We don't verify general interest accounts (e.g. @puppymemes).
    • Note: Politicians may maintain two verified IG accounts in support of ethics requirements to allocate official funds and campaign funds to separate accounts.
  • Complete: Your account must be public and have a bio, profile photo, name, at least one post published to show what account represents, and be active when you apply.
  • Notable: Your account must represent a well-known, highly searched-for person, brand or entity. We review accounts that are featured in multiple news sources, and we don't consider paid or sponsored media content as sources for review.

Note:

  • Make sure that your username is what you'd like it to be before you apply for a verified badge. Once verified, you may not change the username on your account.
  • If you receive a verified badge using false or misleading information during the verification process, we will remove your verified badge and may take additional action to disable your account.

Meta Verified is a paid subscription that comes with features, such as the verified badge, account support, impersonation protection and more.

  • Note: Meta Verified is currently only available for creators and business accounts. Meta Verified currently is not available to certain categories of businesses, such as government, non-profit, and political organizations, including politicians, and any such businesses that successfully subscribe to Meta Verified may have their subscriptions revoked. Follow best practices for engaging your community on Instagram.

Once your content is ready, it’s time to craft a caption that captures what your post is all about. The key on Instagram is to speak with a consistent, genuine, authentic voice that engages your followers, creates a connection with them and builds a relationship that lasts.

  • Lead with the most important information.
  • Use a consistent and personal tone.
  • Keep the copy short and to the point.
  • Encourage action with simple, direct text.
