Threads for Government and Nonprofits

Reach your community by sharing text updates and joining public conversations.

Threads is a place where you can build a base using your existing audience from Instagram and share your point of view on topics important to your organization or platform.

Get started on Threads.

Threads is available on both Android and iOS. Or, if you prefer, you can post via the web by visiting www.threads.net.

Let’s take a look at how easy it is to set up your Threads profile. It’s important to note that Threads is only available to Instagram users at this time.

Login with Instagram.

Your username is waiting.

  • Your Instagram username is already reserved on Threads and your verification status will also carry over.
  • While your Threads username must remain the same as your Instagram username, choosing a different profile picture, bio or link on Threads won’t affect your profile picture, bio or link on Instagram.

Follow right from Instagram.

  • When you join Threads, you can choose to automatically follow accounts you’re already following on Instagram.
  • People can also choose to pre-follow you so you may already have followers once you create a profile.

Your feed on Threads includes threads from people you follow and recommended content from new accounts you may have not yet discovered.

Feed: Choose between two feeds–the chronological “Following” or “For You” which includes recommendations of posts and accounts you may like.

Search: Discover new accounts or explore topics that interest you through search.

Threads offers the same security features as your connected Instagram account. Visit our security best practice page for more details on how to protect your information and presence.

Engage your community in conversation.

Take a text-first approach to creating compelling content that drives discussion.

  • Text: Create a thread with links and up to 500 characters.

  • Polls: Invite others to weigh in on the topics you care about.

  • GIFs: Tap on the GIF icon while composing your thread.

  • Voice Threads: Add more personality to your posts by sharing with your voice.

Follow best practices for posting engaging content.

Keep it fresh and timely.

Jump on trends and share your thoughts on cultural moments such as Giving Season, sharing information on upcoming elections, or current events.

Make it relatable.

Encourage people to see themselves in your content by posting about topics that are relatable. Think about moments that everyone can relate to that will drive conversation. Going to a farmers mark? Running a 5K? Bring your audience with you via Threads.

Create buzz.

Share big updates and moments, but don’t just make your Threads profile an announcement board. This could be a great opportunity to announce a run for office, share your views on legislative bills or let your community know about the opening of a regional nonprofit office.
