Switching my blog to weblog.lol
I used to run my blog as a static site generated with Jekyll for many years. For the same duration, I've been struggling with blogging regularly. This had many reasons, one of which being that the Git-based process created significant friction because I'm not always at a computer with the necessary tooling when inspiration strikes.
When I joined the omg.lol web community, I started using a bunch of its features. But I ignored the weblog because relying on someone else's service again felt like a step backwards in terms of self-hosting. However, the simple post entry form for weblog.lol kept teasing me, and today I finally decided that this isn't just any blogging service. Adam, the person behind it, is an enthusiastic contributor to the indieweb movement and overall great guy.
And so I went and imported 1,000 blog posts into weblog.lol using its Git-based import process. I had to make a few modifications to my Jekyll post files using awk and yq, but the import of the initial post collection as well as my following fixup commits worked great. There are still a few glitches to iron out, and I'll have to fix a bunch of image references over the weekend.
You might notice that I took the opportunity to change the site's look to something that aligns perfectly with my livestream design and my personal style. 😊
But what's most important is that the form I'm typing into right now will hopefully motivate me to post here much more often. Now that the barrier to posting is pretty much gone, I'll be able to quickly share random thoughts just as easily as more elaborate articles.
If you're curious, I can only recommend to check out OMG.LOL. And if you join, say hi to me on its IRC server!
