Monkey Disappointed After Snatching Condom From Beachgoer's Bag

A thieving capuchin monkey was left confused and disappointed after it snatched a condom packet out of a man's bag at a beach in Costa Rica and found a not-very-edible prophylactic inside. Footage of the moment was captured by New York resident Mahita Beeram, who said she was on a "moms and daughters trip" when they spotted the monkey rummaging through the man's belongings at Manuel Antonio National Park. The monkey is seen searching the unattended bag before taking two small objects, including a small foil packet, and then fleeing up into a tree. After spending about 20 seconds tearing the packet open, the monkey pulls out the rolled-up condom, looks at it with confusion, and then tosses both the packet and the condom down onto the ground. Throughout the encounter, members of Beeram's group can be heard laughing, while the man who owned the bag smiles, taking the loss in stride. Beeram told Storyful they had been warned to safeguard their belongings from the local "monkey mafia" as they were liable to "steal your stuff from your bags."
