What a visit to the awesome nuclear manufacturing site of Framatome this week. In the digital/AI age, energy capacity = economic capacity. We need more energy and nuclear is crucial to that future. I love big engineering and this is as big as it gets. Restarting and accelerating the building and uprating of nuclear in the US is the core of Alva Energy's mission.    Thank you team Framatome for the gracious hosting this week!

As Alva transitions from engineering to deployment with our hyperscaler and utility partners, one thing is clear: the fastest path to nuclear requires an extraordinarily resilient supply chain — one that can deliver safely, at scale, and with the highest quality. That's why Alva CEO James Krellenstein, board member Pat Gelsinger and members of our team visited Framatome's Paris headquarters, the Le Creusot forge, and the Saint-Marcel assembly plant — the heart of one of the only vertically integrated nuclear design and manufacturing enterprises outside of Russia and China. A sincere thank you to our hosts Joel Drennan at Framatome North America, Marc Duret, and Mallet-Guy Hubert for an extraordinary visit. Under the leadership of Projects, Components, and Manufacturing (PCM) Business Unit Senior Vice President Jean-Bernard VILLE, Framatome's manufacturing enterprise is undergoing a dramatic expansion, backed by a multibillion-euro investment. The scale and urgency of this transformation is exactly what this moment in nuclear demands. Framatome is the company that delivered the Messmer Plan — 56 reactors in 15 years, the fastest nuclear buildout in history. That capability isn't a memory. It's alive, and it's scaling.

  • Alva launched publicly today—with a feature in The Wall Street Journal on how Alva Energy is on a path to unlocking 10 gigawatts of new power from the existing nuclear fleet in the U.S and beyond. We’re coming out of stealth with $33 million in funding, led by the legendary technologist Pat Gelsinger of Playground Global. Pat is the former CEO of Intel and VMWare and has joined Alva’s Board of Directors.   The fastest path to new nuclear is through “uprates” to operating plants. Alva’s platform, developed over years of engineering, can add 200-300 megawatts (a large SMR’s worth) of capacity to nearly half of America’s nuclear reactors. Construction time for each project is under 2 years following procurement.   Our method builds on successful nuclear power uprates around the world. We reduce time-to-power by deploying only proven nuclear technology with over 100 reactor-years of safe operation, from advanced steam generators and nuclear fuel to enhanced thermal-hydraulic safety analysis methods.   Alva’s proprietary balance of plant technology solves the primary cost driver of past uprates, saving hundreds of millions of dollars in outage costs. It is standardized—engineered to integrate with dozens of plants across the fleet.   Completing Alva's uprate platform is our project delivery capability. Founded to be a partner to America’s nuclear utilities, Alva’s project management organization integrates with plant operations and outage planning to deliver Alva's technology, limiting demands on utility engineering and management staff. Alva team members have led billions of dollars of nuclear projects, setting industry records in high-speed nuclear construction and licensing, including the fastest nuclear steam generator replacement (Richard Kalman) and fastest and cheapest reactor design certification in NRC history (Steve Mannon).   We’re recruiting engineers and operators to join our team at projects across the country. Come build the next 10 gigawatts with us—and help prove that American nuclear can move at the speed the moment demands: https://lnkd.in/eu-jzzMK   Finally, as we exit stealth, we’d like to thank our partners who share our commitment to building the future of American energy: Playground Global, Segra Capital Management LLC, NGP, 8VC, Michael Anders, Will Baine, Isabelle Boemeke, Simon Holmes à Court, Mercator Partners, Alumni Ventures, Activate, Gigascale Capital, Safar Partners, Collaborative Fund. https://lnkd.in/g9QcifJt
