After six weeks of exploration, collaboration, and hands-on learning, this summer’s Arch/Design High School Internship Program came together for one final Friday session at the BSA. 🎉 Last Friday, the BSA hosted its annual Summer Share-Out with the six participating firms. Interns and mentors reflected on the projects, experiences, and lessons that shaped their summer. Through their presentations, interns shared what it was like to step into a professional design environment, tackle new challenges, and consider how these experiences might shape their futures. Throughout the summer, interns explored Boston through a new design lens, developed ideas through sketching and model-making, collaborated with design professionals, and gained firsthand insight into the many paths within architecture. Most importantly, we watched their confidence grow—from asking questions and sharing ideas to trusting their own creative voices. The share-out also brought firms and mentors together to reflect on how the design community can create meaningful pathways into the profession. Week 5 of 6 Fridays of Architecture | Final Design Workshop & Presentations ⭐ This week marked the conclusion of our three-part design workshop, where 40 high school students across 10 teams reimagined the storefront of the BSA’s new home. Over three Fridays, students moved from site analysis and early concepts to plans, elevations, physical models, and final design presentations. The final workshop brought the energy of a true design studio, with students refining their work, collaborating with mentors, and presenting their proposals to peers, partners, and mentors. It was inspiring to see students from different schools, backgrounds, and levels of experience come together through collaboration, creativity, iteration, and critical thinking. Thank you to our students, mentors, and partners— YouthBuild Boston, Hideo Sasaki Foundation, Boston Architectural College’s AIAS Chapter, and Boston PIC (Private Industry Council) for making this experience possible. Week 4 of 6 Fridays of Architecture: Collaborative Design 🖍️ This past Friday, high school students gathered for the second session of our three-part design workshop, continuing to develop proposals for this summer's challenge: reimagining the storefront of the BSA's future home at 99 Chauncy Street. Working in 10 design teams, students built on their research and site analysis while exploring Design Focus Areas that encouraged them to think beyond aesthetics. Some teams considered how their designs could engage the public through the five senses or introduce architecture education to passersby. Through sketching, model-making, and collaborative discussions, students refined their ideas while learning from one another and strengthening their design thinking. A big thank you to our mentors from BACAIAS and YouthBuild Boston for their guidance and encouragement throughout the process. We're looking forward to this Friday's final Design Workshop, where students will present their proposals and share the research, collaboration, and creative thinking behind their designs. Congratulations to the CDL team Wandy Pascoal, Miranda D'Oleo, August Buziak, and Ben Peterson for all their hard work in launching the BSA's first regional guidebook on attainable housing for Cape Cod and the Islands. The project received well-deserved recognition, including front-page coverage from CAI and WBUR , helping bring greater attention to one of the region's most pressing challenges: access to housing for year-round residents. The guidebook was made possible through relationships with local leaders and organizations championing adaptive reuse as a key housing strategy across the region. We are grateful to the Harwich Fire Association, Harwich Conservation Trust, Housing Nantucket, and the many other partners whose collaboration and support made this work possible.
