AIA/GBCI CEU available: For decades, designers have fought for sustainability to be incorporated into building codes and standards. Is it time to do the same for resilience? This report takes a look at how some cities are changing their planning, zoning, and building codes to ensure that their life safety measures still hold up in the face of climate change and to move toward greater levels of resilience. By understanding what kinds of regulations are gaining traction around the country, building professionals can prepare for what might be coming down the pike—or, better yet, become advocates for similar measures in their own regions. AIA/GBCI CEU: 2 units now available for The Risks of Being Smart: Smart Buildings and Cybersecurity Standards Smart buildings and cybersecurity seem unrelated on the surface. Smart buildings are principally concerned with using connectivity to gain visibility into assets and capturing data for optimization of operational performance in terms of maximal conservation of water and energy. Cybersecurity, on the other hand, is concerned with protecting communications networks, and the information on those networks, from foreign and domestic adversaries who could use unauthorized access to create outages, hold assets hostage and cause other damages. This feature will allow you to appreciate the history and key events in building cybersecurity, understand the risks and best practices for smart buildings, relate elements of cybersecurity to your responsibilities as a design or construction professional and effectively consider the implications of cybersecurity for the future of real estate assets. The current government administration has quietly decided on Tuesday to move the headquarters of the U.S. Forest Service from Washington, D.C., to Salt Lake City, Utah. This time, the administration is calling for a complete dismantling of the organization, in order to make it easier for mining, drilling, logging and more in our national forests. Thank you, #AIA, for offering these valuable CEUs on inclusive design on this Transgender Day of Visibility. We celebrate and support transgender, nonbinary and gender non conforming people today and every day.
This Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate and support transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming architects and design professionals! We also recognize that for many transgender people, restroom access is a stressor. That’s why we’re highlighting two #AIAU courses that equip designers to create inclusive restrooms. 📌 Inclusive Restrooms & Locker Rooms in K–12 Schools: https://lnkd.in/gtbEasVA 📌 Designing for All: Creating Inclusive and Compliant Restroom Spaces: https://lnkd.in/g-MG5gHw Swipe for more info ➡️ #TransgenderDayOfVisibility #Design

Urban Rivers looks at how the Chicago River is being reworked through the Wild Mile project, an ongoing series of floating habitats, native planting and public access interventions along an active urban waterway. Rather than a finished park, the Wild Mile operates as a living system, designed to adapt over time while coexisting with surrounding infrastructure and river traffic.
