Updates

  • We recently heard an old scam targeting therapists is making the rounds again. The scam works like this: 1. Therapist receives a seemingly normal email lead/inquiry. 2. The scammer then explains that they want to pre-pay for therapy for several family members. This sounds like a big payday! 3. After providing payment via check, credit card, etc. the scammer makes some kind of excuse and asks for a full refund. 4. The therapists provides a refund not knowing that the scammer's payment was never good to begin with (was going to bounce, was already being disputed w/ credit card co, etc.) 5. The therapist never received a dime but has sent the scammer a full "refund". Versions of this scam have been going on forever. Here's a TherapyNotes blog on the topic from 2018: https://lnkd.in/g4aQNx3t Please be careful out there! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If it sets of your spidey senses, be extra cautious.
