Located just southeast of Phoenix, Mesa is one of the nation's fastest-growing cities. It is the third-largest city in Arizona and the nation's 36th-largest city.     Classes at Mesa Community College resumed this weekend, and we want to wish a wonderful semester to all the students, staff, and faculty heading back to class, especially to the new Mesa College Promise students! Since 2021, more than 1,500 students have attended Mesa Community College tuition free thanks to the Mesa College Promise, which guarantees fully covered tuition for up to two years for qualifying Mesa recent high school graduates and adult learners. We're proud to partner with MCC to ensure that high-quality post-secondary education is attainable for everyone in Mesa.     In celebration of #NationalDogDay, we’re highlighting last year’s City of Mesa Community Spirit focus charity, Ghost Town Dog Rescue. City employees hosted fundraising events and several employees even adopted dogs of their own. $20,465 was raised — a record amount for a City of Mesa Community Spirit focus charity!

    The City of Mesa’s Exceptional Customer Service Award recognizes employees who go above and beyond to provide outstanding service, solve complex problems and improve the experience of residents, businesses and visitors. Congratulations to our most recent recipients: Armando Sapien and Bill Cummings from Safety Services, Todd Rumsey from Transportation, and Seth Levine from Fleet Services, for their cross-departmental work to improve fleet safety by developing a first-of-its-kind training program for unique non-commercial motor vehicles; Animal Control Officer Amber Romero for her quick thinking upon discovering an apartment fire and alerting residents to the danger after a routine animal welfare call; and Veronica Champagne from Library Services for showing compassion, dignity and kindness towards to help a library patron who was experiencing homelessness and needed clean clothing after a personal hygiene incident. Congratulations to these exceptional City of Mesa employees for making a meaningful difference through their service to our community.

    Our hardworking Solid Waste Department operators and field staff are an essential part of our City's operation and the vital services we provide to our community. This week, Mayor Mark Freeman, City Manager Scott Butler, and Deputy City Manager Mike Kennington joined Employee Engagement at the Solid Waste Department for an employee appreciation event. As the workday began, operators and field staff were greeted with cold drinks and snacks handed out by City management. The employees appreciated the gesture and recognition for their dedication and hard work. Mayor Freeman even jumped in to help back the trucks out of the ready line so our operators could get on the road to begin servicing their collection routes. Thank you to our Solid Waste employees for helping to keep our community clean!
