Graduates of the CC Certificate program often become the go-to experts in open licensing initiatives within their institutions, as highlighted during our alumni panel discussion in January. Former program participants shared how they have effectively integrated their learning into their professional lives. Watch it here ➡️ https://buff.ly/iDJqz4F. The upcoming semester starts June 2, 2025, so now is the time to sign up for the CC Certificate for Librarians and Educators. The Open Culture CC Certification is full for the next cohort. The CC community is integral to what we do at Creative Commons and we are thrilled to place it at the center of our work in our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. This year, we are focusing on reconnecting with our community and to start, we need your voice and insight. We want to hear what YOUR vision is for the CC community, we're all ears 👂. To address the climate crisis, we must be open about the work behind it. In 2024, CC published “Recommendations for Better Sharing of Climate Data.” These recommendations were drafted to provide guidance that maximized access, sharing, and reuse of open climate data, with practical steps that can be implemented today. 🔬🌏 Read it here: https://buff.ly/NI7gj8G Image: climate rush © 2008 by passitonfromthemill is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 2.0

“A balanced constitutional copyright system supports our economy, scientific discovery, the rights of creators, and the public’s ability to access knowledge through libraries.” We signed on to a joint letter in response to the dismissal of Shira Perlmutter as the Register of Copyrights and Director of USCO. Read more:
eBook Study Group, alongside a coalition of organizations and individuals from across the #copyright, #library, #museum, #publishing, and #academic communities, has sent a letter to Representative Bryan Steil, Chair of the Joint Committee on the Library, expressing great concern over President Trump’s dismissal of Shira Perlmutter as Register of Copyrights. The letter urges Representative Steil to convene hearings into the dismissals of both Perlmutter - and Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden - to ensure the continued independence and credibility of the U.S. Copyright Office. The Library of Congress is Congress’s library—a vital part of our Legislative branch. The Joint Committee on the Library (the oldest continuing joint committee of Congress!) has a longstanding role in its oversight, and we are calling on it to fulfill that responsibility at a moment when the independence of this institution is at risk. Read "Joint Letter on the Dismissal of the Register of Copyrights, the Integrity of the #CopyrightOffice, and the Separation of Powers" at https://bit.ly/4kgwG4G A fair and functional copyright system depends on institutional integrity and public accountability. We urge Congress to take action.

When it is open, it leads to: 📚 More resilient and relevant collection holders. 🎓 More vibrant research and participatory education. 🎨 More dynamic cultural creativity. 🟰 More just, democratic, diverse, free, and equitable societies.
