As we savor Summer Restaurant Week through this Sunday, Aug. 30, Labor Day weekend brings an abundance of opportunities to enjoy #WashingtonDC. DC JazzFest takes place at venues across the city, including The Wharf, and some performances are free. For a mind-bending show, check out the DC Festival of Magic at the Capital Hilton. The National Symphony Orchestra performs for free at DAR Constitution Hall and celebrate the city’s agricultural, artistic and culinary talents at the DC State Fair at Anthem Row. I’m looking ahead to fall, as well, with an array of openings, outdoor festivals and cultural activities. Check out what’s in store: https://lnkd.in/e_cemCHU

This weekend, we’re revving up for #WashingtonDC’s first-ever IndyCar race. The event, like any that takes place during a typical need period for the city, is a positive in terms of generating room nights and economic impact. The racecourse will also showcase DC’s iconic landmarks to a global audience. There are fun events planned all weekend, including a Saturday race of champions with racing icons and autograph sessions, but be prepared for possible adjustments in terms of hours and access to visitor attractions inside the race perimeter. Check out this guide to race weekend: https://lnkd.in/ep6Y-9Nq 📷Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, DC

The NEXTDC Career Ready Interns recently concluded their six-week summer internship by presenting their final group projects. The interns were asked to develop student centered campaigns that encourage Academy students to become part of the NEXTDC community. Working in teams, they designed and pitched original campaign concepts through: • Fashion and branded merchandise • Documentary films Each presentation was grounded in the four pillars that define NEXTDC: Network, Educate, Experience and Travel, while applying real world skills in branding, audience engagement and storytelling. The challenge: How do we make NEXTDC something students want to be part of, not just know about? The presentations showcased thoughtful ideas and strong collaboration with original apparel concepts to compelling documentary films. Each team demonstrated the ability to combine everything they learned this summer and personal experience into campaigns with real potential. Thank you to our mentors, educators and employer partners who invested their time in these future leaders throughout the summer. A special thank you to The Square for hosting our presentations and Rocklands Barbeque & Grilling Company for catering lunch!
