Work anniversaries are about more than marking another year on the calendar. They're an opportunity to recognize the people who continue to make a difference across Dick Broadcasting Company. This August, we're proud to celebrate team members across all four of our markets who are reaching milestones ranging from 1 year to 13 years with DBC. Every one of those years represents relationships built, ideas brought to life, challenges overcome, clients served, listeners entertained, and contributions that have helped move our company forward. Congratulations to Dawn Dana, Tara Harder, Reagan Wall, Matt Wells, Barrett Boyles, Thomas Hicks, and Tim Finley on their August anniversaries. We're grateful you've chosen to spend these years as part of DBC. And while we love celebrating the people who have grown with us, we're always interested in meeting the people who might grow with us next. If you're talented, motivated, curious, and looking for a place where you can make an impact, we'd like to hear from you. The Difference is Local. The difference is also our people. #DickBroadcasting #WorkAnniversary #TeamDBC #MediaCareers #LocalMedia

Leading the way to radio broadcasting for more than 60 years! This is DBC!
About us
Dick Broadcasting Inc. was founded in 1952 when James A. Dick Sr, filed an application with the FCC for a daytime AM station in Knoxville, TN. The station went live in 1953, with a focus on local content and a commitment to being involved in the community. He went as far as creating call letters to match that commitment, calling the station WIVK, which stood for the Independent Voice of Knoxville. Today, we not only operate WKRR-Rock 92 "Home of 2 Guys Named Chris" and WKZL-107.5 "Home of Jared & Katie in the Morning" from the Corporate Office in Greensboro, NC, in 2017 Dick Broadcasting also acquired stations in New Bern, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC & Savannah, GA! Making DBC 20 Radio Stations strong! Dick Broadcasting also offers exceptional digital services through DBC Next! In an era of one size fits all radio we customize everything we do for listeners and clients. We believe content is king. We integrate our streaming, web site and social media into all of our contests and promotions! This is DBC!

Your customers do not experience "channels." They experience a day. They hear a familiar voice on the drive to work. Check the weather before deciding what to wear. Scroll between meetings. Search when a need suddenly becomes real. As marketers, we like to talk about radio, digital, social, search, outdoor, and events as different channels. But the customer doesn't think that way. They're simply moving through their day. Good local marketing connects those moments with one clear idea — showing up in the right places, at the right times, with a message that feels relevant. We saw this play out recently with a home generator dealer heading into storm season. Instead of just running ads, we met their customers at a high-intent event, then stayed present through their day with consistent radio. Sales up 50%. Campaign cost recouped in two months. That's the work we want to do with advertisers across our markets. Not just sell them a channel. Help them become part of their customers' day. Curious what that could look like for your business? Let's talk.

Every once in a while, a listener sends a note that reminds us why this business matters. This week, one listener wrote: "Thank you... for enriching my life and providing happiness in a world that wants to constantly bring me down." There wasn't a question. There wasn't a complaint. There wasn't even a request. Just gratitude. In broadcasting, it's easy to measure ratings, revenue, and digital metrics. What's much harder to measure is the impact a local voice can have on someone's day. For many people, radio isn't just background noise on the drive to work. It's companionship. It's laughter. It's a familiar voice during a difficult season. We're grateful to every listener who chooses to spend part of their day with us—and to every member of our programming teams who work every day to earn that privilege. Sometimes a simple email is the best reminder of why local radio still matters. #Broadcasting #LocalRadio #Community #Gratitude

Every few months, someone asks: "Is radio still relevant?" The better question might be: Can your advertising reach the people you need to reach? New Edison Research data shows AM/FM radio reached 56% of adults daily over the past year—more than the combined ad-supported audiences of Spotify, Pandora, and podcasts. Even more importantly, radio added more incremental reach to a media plan than any other ad-supported audio platform. That doesn't mean streaming isn't valuable. Streaming does things radio can't—like reaching specific audiences with remarkable precision. The strongest marketing strategies don't ask which platform is "better." They ask which combination of platforms gives a business the best chance of reaching the right audience. Too often, businesses start with: "Where should we advertise?" A better question is: "Who are we trying to reach, and what combination of media gives us the best chance of reaching them?" The answer will be different for every business. That's why the best marketing strategies are driven by objectives—not assumptions. What's driving your media plan right now: your audience, or your assumptions? #Marketing #Advertising #Radio #LocalBusiness #MediaStrategy

Last weekend, one of our North Carolina radio stations did something none of us expected. It was heard...in Spain. Not on an app. Not on a stream. Not on a podcast. On FM radio. A retired broadcast engineer in Salamanca, Spain captured the signal of our station, 92.3 The River (WQSL), nearly 3,850 miles away thanks to a rare atmospheric event that caused FM signals to bounce across the ionosphere. For about 20 minutes, a radio station serving Eastern North Carolina was reaching listeners on another continent. In an age where everything is digital, it's easy to forget that there's still something remarkable about radio. Every once in a while, nature reminds us. Technology changes. Platforms evolve. But there's still something incredibly cool about sending a signal into the air and having someone thousands of miles away hear it. Radio has always connected people. Sometimes...it just connects them a little farther away than expected.

Every month, we celebrate work anniversaries at Dick Broadcasting. Some are celebrating 2 years. Others are celebrating 24 years. While the numbers are different, they all represent the same thing: people choosing to build their careers here. Radio has changed. Marketing has changed. Technology has changed. What hasn't changed is that great companies are built by great people who care about serving their communities, helping local businesses grow, and supporting one another. To everyone celebrating a work anniversary this month, thank you for everything you do. Your dedication, creativity, and commitment are what make Dick Broadcasting what it is today. Congratulations to each of you—we're excited to see what we'll accomplish together in the years ahead.

Behind every station is a community. Every weekend, somewhere across the Carolinas and Coastal Georgia, you'll find a Dick Broadcasting station bringing people together. Sometimes it's a concert. Sometimes it's a local festival. Sometimes it's a charity event. Sometimes it's simply putting a smile on someone's face. These moments don't happen in a studio—they happen in our communities. That's why we've always believed great local media is about more than reaching an audience. It's about building relationships that connect listeners, businesses, and neighborhoods in meaningful ways. We're grateful to be part of so many memorable moments across the Piedmont Triad, Greenville–New Bern–Jacksonville, Myrtle Beach, and Savannah/Hilton Head. Thank you to our listeners, our advertising partners, and our incredible team members who make these experiences possible. Tell Great Stories. Help Others Succeed. That's DBC. #DickBroadcasting #LocalMedia #Community #Advertising #DigitalMarketing #LocalBusiness #Marketing

When businesses compete for attention, awareness alone isn't enough. The right strategy makes the difference. Recreation USA came to us looking to build on the success of its first RV Expo. This time, however, the event would compete against a larger, established RV show happening the same weekend. Rather than relying on a single marketing tactic, our team developed a coordinated campaign that combined: • Broad-reach radio advertising • Live personality endorsements • On-site remotes • Weather sponsorships • Precision-targeted digital audio The goal was simple: reach the right audience, multiple times, through multiple touchpoints in the days leading up to the event. The results spoke for themselves: ✔️ A record Expo weekend ✔️ A strengthened long-term partnership ✔️ $6,000 donated to a local charity as a result of the event's success ✔️ Record organic search traffic in the months that followed Every client is different, but one principle remains the same: The most effective marketing strategies don't begin with a platform—they begin with a business objective. Congratulations to the Recreation USA team, and thank you for trusting Dick Broadcasting and DBC Next to be part of your success.
