For 125 years, the El Paso Electric Company has helped power the homes, businesses, schools, and essential services that keep our communities moving forward. Behind that reliable service are more than 1,200 employees who work every day to serve customers across southern New Mexico and west Texas. Beyond keeping the lights on, El Paso Electric has also been a valued community partner, supporting local nonprofits, schools, and community initiatives through volunteerism and charitable giving. We extend our sincere appreciation to its employees, retirees, and community partners for the many ways they have contributed to our region over the past 125 years. The Doña Ana County Board of County Commissioners is proud to recognize the Hatch Chile Festival for its longstanding contributions to the culture, agriculture, economy, and community spirit of Doña Ana County. What began in 1971 as a small gathering of local farmers celebrating the chile harvest has grown into a beloved southern New Mexico tradition attracting more than 30,000 visitors each Labor Day weekend. The festival celebrates the generations of farmers and agricultural workers who have helped build the Hatch Valley's chile legacy, while supporting local businesses and community organizations and sharing Hatch's unique traditions and hospitality with visitors from around the world. Promotoras/Community Health Workers (CHWs) are an essential part of the public health workforce, helping bridge the gap between communities and health and social services. Through relationship-building, advocacy, education, and connection to resources, CHWs help reduce barriers to care and advance health equity. In a community as diverse as Doña Ana County, the work of CHWs is especially valuable. Their knowledge of the communities they serve, combined with their commitment to building trust and improving access to resources, helps create healthier and more connected communities. This week, we celebrate and thank the Community Health Workers serving Doña Ana County for their dedication, expertise, and commitment to the people they serve. Doña Ana County Treasurer Marisol Richardson has transitioned into a new role as Director of the Office of Performance and Budget. Richardson will bring her experience and leadership to the new position, where she will focus on building strong teams, mentoring employees, and developing programs that support organizational success. While her transition creates a vacancy in the County Treasurer’s Office, Deputy Treasurer Eric Rodriguez will oversee the office in the interim to ensure continuity of operations and services. The Board of County Commissioners is expected to discuss next steps regarding the Treasurer’s Office at its regular meeting on September 22. We congratulate Marisol on her new role and appreciate her continued commitment to serving the residents of Doña Ana County. We look forward to the contributions she will make in this new capacity.

Doña Ana County is proud to recognize Gloria Maldonado of the Purchasing Department with a Special Recognition Award for her exceptional leadership and planning of the County’s America’s 250th celebration in July! The Special Recognition Award is presented to employees who demonstrate exceptional performance, whether through a single event or on an ongoing basis. Gloria drew on her extensive event-planning experience to lead one of the County’s most ambitious celebrations to date. Her efforts helped deliver a successful three-day event that welcomed more than 11,000 attendees and featured live entertainment, food, vendors, family activities, and nightly drone shows. The celebration provided residents and visitors with an opportunity to come together while demonstrating Doña Ana County’s ability to plan and deliver a premier community event. Congratulations, Gloria, and thank you for your leadership, dedication, and outstanding service to Doña Ana County!

We’re looking for Doña Ana County residents who are ready to serve as election officials! Election officials are essential to conducting our elections. They help voters through the voting process, operate polling locations, and help ensure elections are conducted fairly, securely, and efficiently. Doña Ana County is seeking community members interested in serving on the Community Monitoriing Committee related to Project Jupiter. The committee will include 11 members: two representatives from each County Commissioni district, plus one additional at-large member from anywhere in the County, appointed by Commission Chair Manuel Sanchez. Following the August 31 deadline, County Commissioners will review submissions and appoint the official committee members. Service is voluntary. Committee members will also be required to disclose any financial interests, employment, or other affiliations with entities associated with Project Jupiter, whether in support of or opposition to the project.
