Jerudong International School (JIS) was proud to host FOBISIA eJAWS 2026: Developing Independent Learners, a professional learning event focused on fostering student independence. Bringing together educators from international schools across Asia, the event provided a valuable opportunity for our teachers to engage in meaningful professional development, strengthening their practice to better support student learning at JIS. As a COBIS Training School, JIS is committed to contributing and sharing expertise with fellow educators across the region. Throughout the event, discussions centred on the importance of metacognition and student independence, exploring how learners can be empowered to take ownership of their progress through reflection, goal-setting and critical thinking. We extend our sincere thanks to our workshop leaders, Akshika Bansal, Katherine Hall, Emma Sheldon, Ian Campbell, Phil May, Becci Grant, Abi Knauf, Wenyi Chu, Siti Zaleha and Bridget Ellen Keely, for sharing their expertise and insights so generously. Special thanks also to John van der Marel for delivering an inspiring keynote that set the tone for the event. We are equally grateful to all participants for their engagement, thoughtful contributions and willingness to share ideas, which made the event both collaborative and impactful. #JerudongInternationalSchool #JISBrunei #JIS
