Sometimes, giving back looks like sandy feet, games in the sand, and an afternoon by the shore. Welcoming children from Hope Street Margolis Family Center to the Jonathan Beach Club is a tradition we hold close, and a joyful reflection of what it means to open our doors to the broader Los Angeles community. On September 26, the Jonathan Town Club will host Hope Street’s Champions for Children Dinner in support of the organization’s education, health and family programs throughout Los Angeles. Jonathan Club, a BoardRoom Distinguished Club with ICONIC status, faced a unique challenge: how to engage members with World Cup-themed events in a city where soccer traditionally takes a back seat to football and baseball. The club’s ambitious programming transformed the summer experience. Through interactive soccer activities, specially crafted menu items, branded scarves and a World Cup bracket competition, Jonathan Club turned spectators into participants while building excitement among members and staff. What if community giving could do more than support a worthy cause, what if it could also bring a club community closer together? Jonathan Club, a BoardRoom Distinguished Clubs with ICONIC status, has supported West Coast Care for years, helping the organization reconnect people experiencing homelessness with their families, purpose and a pathway forward. The club’s latest effort paired a $25,000 donation with a hands-on volunteer event where board members, members, staff and families assembled 900 care kits. “We believe supporting our community means more than writing a check,” Jonathan Club president Chip Lightfoot said. “Financial contributions are essential, but volunteering creates personal connections, strengthens our culture of service and demonstrates our commitment in a meaningful way.” It’s a powerful reminder that when club leaders combine financial giving with meaningful participation, community service becomes part of the club’s culture. Great clubs are built around shared experiences. As the world has come together to celebrate the global game, Jonathan Beach Club has embraced the moment with beachside soccer, watch parties and Member programming designed to foster connection. We were delighted to welcome Brian Rowe, UCLA standout and eight-season MLS veteran, to join Members for an afternoon of friendly competition and conversation. Experiences like these continue to bring our community together in meaningful ways.

Jonathan Club is pleased to welcome Chip Lightfoot as President of the Board of Directors for 2026–2027. A member for more than 30 years, Chip brings extensive leadership experience to the role, having previously served as Treasurer, Secretary, and Director. Throughout his service, he has remained deeply committed to the Club's mission of enriching the lives of our members and preserving the values that have guided Jonathan Club for more than a century. We look forward to the year ahead under Chip's leadership and thank him for his continued dedication to the Club and its membership.

On the sand at the Jonathan Beach Club, our Board of Directors and their families came together to assemble 900 essential care kits for our longtime community partner, West Coast Care. The day also marked a $25,000 investment from Jonathan Club, presented by outgoing Board President John Iino, to further their mission in helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness find a path home. A meaningful reminder of what can be accomplished when people come together in service of others.
