Once built purely for protection, the exterior grille has transformed into a powerful statement of brand identity and intelligent engineering. Let’s take a closer look at these transformations as we continue our Innovation in Motion series. PAST: Early grilles were functional with metal bars protecting radiators and engines from road debris. By the 1920s, designs became more decorative, a signature style for brands like Cadillac. PRESENT: Advances in cooling and safety have allowed modern designers to experiment with grille styles, including choreographed LED lighting and illuminated emblems. FUTURE: In concept, we have already begun to see grilles remaining functional for EV battery cooling while also communicating important information such as charging status, blending performance with innovative technology. JVIS was proud to attend the Fraser Public Schools High School Job Fair yesterday alongside our industry partner, Deluxe Technologies, and many other local businesses. We truly enjoyed connecting with students, sharing more about our company and industry, and discussing future career opportunities. It was an honor to be part of an event focused on inspiring the next generation.

This month, our Innovation in Motion series explores how the door handle demonstrates that even the simplest touchpoint has played a role in redefining vehicle innovation. PAST: Early vehicles had simple bar or pin handles attached to a rotating mechanism, which evolved into twist and pull handles for easier access. PRESENT: Flush handles now improve aerodynamics and often feature keyless entry with touch or pull activation. FUTURE: Futuristic designs will use lightweight, durable materials, enhancing performance, longevity, and user convenience while meeting regulatory standards. As materials and technology continue to evolve, tomorrow’s door handles will quietly combine performance and convenience, proving that thoughtful design is always within reach. Continuing our Innovation in Motion series, we’re turning the dial to explore the evolution of Radio & Connectivity. PAST: Car audio began in 1930 with AM radios as a luxury feature, later evolving to 8-track tapes, cassettes, and CD players that put music choice in the driver’s hands. PRESENT: Today’s vehicles use integrated touchscreens for smartphone connectivity, voice control, climate settings, and navigation. FUTURE: The next evolution includes advanced HMI, gesture control, smart surfaces, and shape-shifting interiors designed around the user. To kick off our Innovation in Motion series, we’re taking a look at how one simple automotive feature has changed over time: the rear view mirror. PAST: The first rear view mirror was patented by Chester A. Weed in 1914. Early mirrors were manually adjusted and had limited visibility. PRESENT: Now, electrochromic glass reduces glare, cameras are integrated to expand awareness, blind spot alerts improve safety, and overall visibility is clearer and more reliable. FUTURE: We will see the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence, along with expanded augmented reality applications that overlay information directly onto the driver’s mirror to enhance awareness and deliver critical information without distraction. From a manually adjusted mirror to intelligent, data-driven technology, the rear-view mirror continues to evolve.
