MAPEI played a central role in the renovation of Zoo Miami's Aviary Temple, a highly specialized habitat built for Paora, a kiwi hatched in partnership with the Smithsonian National Zoo. The scope included waterproofing for leaking second-level planters, moisture mitigation, structural repairs, and over 3,200 sq. ft. of cementitious flooring across the kiwi and snake exhibits. Every surface had to meet strict biological exposure requirements, provide slip resistance, and still look completely natural. Originally built in 1929, Skyline Lodge blends Jazz-Age design with modern luxury. During its remodel, the goal was to preserve period-correct penny-round tile floors while still delivering a key modern amenity: heated bathroom floors. Because penny rounds and radiant heat aren’t typically compatible, especially over a nearly 100-year-old wood substrate, the project required a smart system solution. By working closely with the installer and MAPEI Technical Services, the team delivered a layered approach that supported both design intent and performance.
