Our 2026 Underwriting Training Program (UTP) participants just wrapped up Broker Week at our Red Bank, NJ office! This interactive week focused on strengthening the important relationship between Markel and our broker partners. The week began with a signature UTP tradition, where trainees shared the meaning behind a favorite quote displayed on their personalized wall plaques. More than an icebreaker, the exercise encouraged reflection, inspired peer connections and marked the start of applying their training in a practical way. From there, participants explored what it means to bring a growth mindset to underwriting and developed practical skills for understanding broker needs, building lasting relationships and leading productive conversations. Throughout the week, participants heard from Markel leaders and former UTP trainees, developed their business development skills and put their learning into practice through mock broker meetings. They also heard one simple but important message: Pick up the phone. In a world of text messages and emails, brokers still value a direct conversation with their underwriters. Participants concluded the experience by receiving actionable feedback and hearing directly from broker partners during a panel discussion. Thank you to everyone who shared their experience and helped make Broker Week a success. We look forward to seeing this group apply these lessons as they continue their journeys at Markel! #UTP2026 #WeAreMarkel #WorkAtMarkel #EarlyCareers
