  • DGS hosted its Earth Day event this week, bringing together partners from across the State to highlight innovation and progress in sustainability! Secretary Chaudhry delivered remarks and presented the Maryland EV Champion Award to Joseph Hester from the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, recognizing his leadership, advocacy, and initiative in advancing electric vehicle adoption across Maryland. Attendees had the opportunity to explore tables showcasing green products and organizations working to build a more sustainable future for Maryland. The event also featured exciting electric vehicle demonstrations, including the opportunity to ride and drive some of the State’s growing fleet of electric vehicles, as well as an electric bus. • Yesterday, a number of bills were signed into law, including two key efforts supported by DGS that passed unanimously and will make a real impact across the State: The Maryland Capitol Police Statewide Jurisdiction bill expands MCP authority, significantly enhancing the State’s ability to protect the public, employees, visitors, and critical assets wherever they’re needed. The Competitive Proof of Concept Procurement bill brings a more flexible method to procurement, allowing agencies to test proposals, evaluate what works, and move forward with confidence, all within a structured and transparent process. These efforts will help deliver better services, stronger protections, and greater value for Marylanders—thank you to everyone who played a role in making this possible!

  • Secretary Atif Chaudhry joined Comptroller Brooke Lierman and partners to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Comptroller’s Office location in Bel Air, where he delivered remarks highlighting the impact of this investment in the community. “At DGS, our mission as a support agency is to build a foundation through infrastructure and operational support that allow state agencies like the Comptroller’s Office to focus on what matters most: serving Marylanders. This relocation is a strong example of that work in action.” This new facility is one of several projects led in partnership between DGS and the Comptroller’s Office to expand access to state services and better serve communities across Maryland!

  • Take Your Kids to Work Day at DGS was a hit! From games and icebreakers to hands-on activities at our career fair, kids got a close-up look at what their parents and family members do each day. Each division brought something different to the table, giving the kids a chance to learn, try things out, and ask questions. They also got to meet the furry members of the Maryland Capitol Police K9 unit and check out MCP vehicles! The day included a welcome from Secretary Atif Chaudhry and wrapped up with a fun Q&A filled with great questions and fun suggestions for next year's event. An exciting day all around and a great opportunity for families to spend time together while giving them a closer look at the work happening at DGS every day. Thank you to everyone who participated!

  • In recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, our Maryland Capitol Police dispatchers gave Secretary Atif Chaudhry and Deputy Secretary Joh Sedtal a firsthand look at what it takes to do such an important job. From learning the system to handling mock calls, they stepped into the role and experienced just a small part of the essential work our dispatchers take on every day.
