Our renewable operations team is partnering with a local farmer to bring their sheep's grazing services to our solar farm near Fort Dodge, Iowa! This makes for an environmentally friendly way to manage the vegetation under our solar panels, which needs to be maintained to maximize efficiency, and provides a great source of protein to the herd. 🐑 🌱

Iowa Spring is investing in the future of their business with our Small Business Express program! The company upgraded their dust collection system with a variable frequency drive that automatically modulates fan speeds to help save energy. They saved on more than 40% of projects and will save on energy costs for years to come! Read more: https://ow.ly/ipAs50ZPjXO

It's true – renewables and coal complement each other well. While wind and solar help keep energy costs down and are good for the environment, the wind isn't always blowing and the sun isn't always shining. Having coal as a back-up generation option ensures that we can provide affordable, reliable and sustainable energy to our customers through an all-of-the-above approach. Last week, four MidAmerican front-line teams competed in the second-annual Iowa Lineman's Rodeo – hosted by the Iowa Utility Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) – at the Iowa State Fair! The teams competed in multiple different challenges, including a pole climb, cutout change and a simulated rescue. While all the teams put on a strong performance, our team from Sioux City came out on top, claiming the Best of the Best title for the second year in a row. Great job to all of the teams!

We love to see the positive impact our energy efficiency programs can have on our customers! John Deere's Waterloo Tractor Operations – the company's largest manufacturing complex globally – recently participated in our Nonresidential Energy Solutions program, receiving incentives to upgrade to more efficient equipment and support to implement an employee-led energy management program at their facility. The result? Tom Zehentner, facilities engineer at John Deere, says: “We had the lowest number of kilowatt-hours used in June than we have had in the 10 years we’ve been tracking this data.” What a fantastic outcome!

While the solar panels around our service area are taking in sunshine to create clean, renewable energy, the land beneath them is helping support healthy soil and local ecosystems. ☀️ Perennial ground cover helps reduce runoff and erosion. ☀️ Native prairie grasses and flowers support pollinators and local ecosystems. ☀️ Deep-rooted vegetation improves soil health and can help prepare the land for future crop production. Happy National Intern Day! Our interns get a flurry of opportunities during their time with us, but one of the most impactful may be the time they get to spend in the community through our CARES program. Earlier this summer, nearly 100 interns volunteered at Many Hands Thrift Market locations across the Des Moines metro to sort and organize sale items. Get a peek into their morning of volunteering ⬇️ 🤝
